The Great Stanford Twitter Debacle of 2012

Feb 06, 2012 17:22

So.. Initially I had a lot of keysmashy FEELINGS about Stanford and twitter and Stanford's twitter. Mostly I fear first or secondhand embarrassment because I have lots and lots of feelings, okay? (I've also mocked him constantly--if good naturedly--for the past 7 years.) But I'm actually really glad that Stanford seems to be warming up to the ( Read more... )

I'm still having mixed feelings about this. I'm not entirely sure I want to know what he's like as a real person. Is that odd?

LOL. No.. I don't think it's odd, either. I think I felt the same way, especially at Stanfordwank, because we've had a lot of fun constructing a sort of snarky reclusive persona for Stanford based on a few quotes we've gotten from interviews

But at the same time I think he deserves to be a real person and have his voice heard like everyone else. And I think this is a big leap for him and I hope it works out well.

(Even if I want to do something incredibly childish like @reply him 40 times HEY SEYMORE HORACE HOHO BEAGLE RUGGAGE RUDGATE, STANFORDWANK SAYS HI!, but I have thusfar resisted doing that.)

I tweeted at him. I wasn't sure whether or not to and had pretty much decided against it because 1) what is there to say really? and 2) he was getting bombarded with tweets from Nikita and Birkhoff fangirls (which is really weird). But then I just said, "Hi." I figured he might need a break from all, "Welcome to Twitter; you're a real man now!" tweets.

LOL. Good. =) I'm glad he's getting so much love from the Nikita fangirls. They really love him (they call him Aaron; it's so disturbing) and he has a lot of people shipping his character with various other characters on the show and such so that always makes actors more popular.

I am still a little wary of Stanford on twitter but I am sure all will end well. (Still waiting for that knowledge to be dropped though.. The only thing that's dropped so far is the other shoe.)

I feel the snarky persona we've constructed is going to come crashing down. He seems really sweet. And that's okay. This is awesome.

I've been sitting on my hands for like 12 hours now. If I do tweet him, do I have permission to invoke the stanfordwank name? Alternatively, can we resurrect the stanfordwank twitter?

I know he's polite and seems to be kind but interviews bring out interesting quotes and I've heard stories and I think it would be fun to have an alternate made up persona, so no harm, I think.

And Jesus fuck someone stopping dead in the Wal mart parking lot with an 80s scrunchy and a NASCAR jacket.. Pls save me and take me away to French Canada where they do not have these abominations...

But anyway. Feel free to use stanfordwank, but identify yourself as Laura so he doesn't think you're me. Also, if we do have an s.wank Twitter, I think we should feed posts into it, not that we post much.

So I tweeted him fishing for an s.wank shout out but was denied. I am not especially surprised.

Was it me or you who started the twitter account? I'm happy to try to get something going with it...we shall discuss.

And also, French Canada NEEDS you Ashe. We are ready and waiting.

I'm thinking it was you since you follow it and I don't, but tbh it could just as well be me. I found it last night and wondered when I made it. I don't expect a shout out from Stanford but I won't ask for one. I might make a "things I recommend you do on twitter" post anyway just for kicks.

I just discovered his twitter page too. Was wondering when you were going to announce this. :)

LOL. The most amusing thing so far is Stanford vs. West: The Great Winky Face War of 2012.

(TBH it's not that amusing so far; he's mostly just said happy birthday to a few people, which is really very sweet and obvi well all approve and applaud. But I checked his tweets once or twice and caught a few tweets by friends that I'm super glad I caught, including this one article that bears no relevance to this conversation so.. Anyway. =D)

Also apparently Laura is thinking of setting up the stanfordwank twitter so we'll see how/where that goes.

It's pretty cool he's been wishing people happy bday. Someday I'll tweet to him (mostly if he posts things worth responding to.) But I'm not going to be one of those people that goes "lookie here." Well, I'll try not to be.

Also, I think a stanfordwank twitter would be fun. I'd follow it.

I couldn't help it, I had to Tweet him lol. I don't even use Twitter very often at all!

He seems nice, but what were we expecting anyway?! XD I run the Aaron Stanford Facebook Page lol and I posted about it there. It's funny that no matter what I say, people still think that I'm him... -_- Well, now they can go and sing their praises directly to him lol. Poor thing, he's going to be inundated with Birkhoff and Pyro fangirls!!! No, of course I'm not one of them!
