How many miles do you think is too far to commute one way to work if your child’s daycare is located close to your house?

I would take into consideration the actual time not the miles.
Right now I commute 40 miles which without any traffice gets me to work in 30-40 minutes. With traffic it takes 1.5 hours!

I hope that you are able to go in early enough and leave early enough to aviod traffic then.

I try but it doesn't always happen!
Are you looking for a new job?

Yes. I’ve been looking for awhile but it looks like the paralegal field is starting to dry up along with mass tort. I started working contract with the government in April and shortly realized that I was more of a private practice kind of girl. I interviewed with a firm almost two months ago but didn’t get the position. Well they called me twice about interviewing with a different attorney for another paralegal position that they have. I think I would love the work, but it would increase my commute from 20 minutes to about 40 minutes. And I’d have to insist that they let me work 8:00 to 4:30 with only 30 minutes for lunch, which I don’t even know if they’ll do. I guess I should just wait to see how my interview goes and see if they offer me the position.

I think it depends on several things:

~ what time you have to be there
~ how bad traffic is (how long it'll actually take)
~ how high the payrate is

personally, gas is so expensive I would not go more than 10 miles. But that's just me. Well... unless I could make a lot more than I could near my house. Then maybe 20 miles.
