zeehondpunk, who gave me the prompts, and deserved something cute.
It’s perfectly silent that night, except for the slow creaking of the swing and the soft breathing of you and Hankyung. It’s late, and it’s dark, and the playground is completely empty except for the two of you. The moon isn’t yet full, so even that doesn’t illuminate much. The rest of the playground is just large, suspicious shadows lurking in the darkness.
You feel Hankyung give another gentle push with his legs - you’re sitting on his lap, one of his arms curled protectively around your waist - and the chains of the swing let out another one of those long, low, creaking moans.
It’s actually quite eerie, out here in the dark, with just the creaking of the swings and the rustling of a slight breeze surrounding you both. But Hankyung’s arm is tight around your waist, and his breath is warm against your neck, so you feel safe enough. It’s also rather thrilling, really, in the way that watching some horror movie can be; it’s exciting and just a little risky. Besides, you could never be completely scared anyway, not when you’re with Hankyung. And it’s still a beautiful night, even if it is just a little bit creepy.
You’re not supposed to be out this late though, both of you know this; you were both supposed to be home long ago, and if either of you were any good at following such rules, by now you should have been tucked up warm and safe and sleeping in bed.
But you’re not, and you really don’t care, and you know Hankyung doesn’t either. This was his idea anyway, to come to the playground. You’d thought it a little bit cheesy, a little bit cliché, the both of you being adults now and going to the park to sit on the swings in the dark. But when Hankyung gave you his dazzling, slightly silly smile, and giggled like a dork, you couldn’t resist. You’d probably do just about anything Hankyung asked of you if he giggled at you stupidly.
You’re not complaining though, because this is nice, this is better than nice, and really you hadn’t been quite ready to end this night anyway. It had all been wonderful, so far. Your first date, out, together, you and Hankyung. The two of you had opted for traditional that night, dinner and a movie, nothing special or exceptional, and still it had been what you’re sure is the best date you’ve ever been on. But then, you’re probably biased by now, since you’re absolutely crazy about Hankyung.
The dinner had come first, with Hankyung so nervous he spilt his water, and you so nervous you ended up laughing like an idiot. But it had been fun, anyway. And then the movie, which Hankyung liked to talk through, leaning over to whisper some kind of comment to you or ask a question about something he didn’t understand. Usually something like that would have annoyed you, except you love hearing Hankyung’s soft voice whispering anything in your ear, even stupid, irrelevant things.
It had gone well though, you think, and once you had both remembered there was no need to be nervous both you and Hankyung had calmed down. Well, maybe ‘calm’ wasn’t the right word for it, it had been obvious all night you’d both been excited about this, but … more relaxed. Yeah. You’d both been friends for awhile now, after all, and there was no need for nerves
And now it’s just the two of you, the quarter moon, the creaky swing and the rustling grass. Perfect, it was absolutely perfect.
“Tonight was really fun,” you say, turning your face to look at Hankyung, who’s smiling his usual warm, happy smile.
“Yeah, it was,” he agrees, pushing again with those long, graceful legs of his, sending another of those eerie, creaky moans out into the darkness.
His face is so close to yours, you realise suddenly, which is stupid, you should have realised sooner, but now as you notice this your mind fills up with visions of you kissing Hankyung. You haven’t yet, either of you. Perhaps you two were being slow, or maybe the both of you were just too nervous to do it, but you two haven’t had your first kiss together yet.
Now seems like the perfect moment for one, though, sitting on Hankyung’s lap, his arms around you, swinging gently in the moonlight, his face so close to yours you can still feel his breath warm against your neck. It is a perfect moment, and although your heart has started to beat wildly inside your chest and your stomach is doing flip-flops, you want to take advantage of it.
You start to lean towards him, though his face isn’t very far away anyway, but just at the moment when you should have been kissing him, Hankyung gave another push to the swing, and instead of a soft melting of lips, you lose your balance and fall towards him, knocking your foreheads together, hard.
There’s a loud yelp of pain, and you don’t even realise it’s coming from you, and Hankyung’s cursing in Chinese under his breath. The both of you start to rub at your now aching foreheads, and you can’t help but wonder quietly to yourself if perhaps you happen to be cursed or something, or maybe Hankyung was, because really it was his fault.
“Sorry,” you mumble, still rubbing at your forehead, that had really hurt!
“No, it was my fault, I’ll stop swinging now,” Hankyung says, also rubbing at his head, although there’s a slight smile on his face.
You frown at him, “what’s the smile for? That really hurt!”
It seems that was all Hankyung needed to set him off, because now he’s laughing, that stupid laugh of his which you always find so endearing - and yes, admittedly, cute. You frown more, wondering what’s so funny, you can feel the ache still throbbing in your forehead, and you hadn’t got to kiss him. There was nothing for Hankyung to be laughing at, but still, he laughs.
“I don’t see what’s so funny,” you tell him, sounding a little grouchy now. “My head’s sore now, and it was your fault.” Hankyung continues to laugh. “What are you laughing at?”
Shaking his head, Hankyung snorts and sputters a little until he’s only giggling, but he still looks much more amused than he should do. “The face you make when you’re annoyed,” he tells you in between a few more of his silly giggles. “Your face scrunches up and you sound so grumpy. It’s funny.”
Oh, that’s just great, that is, just what you wanted to hear, you looked funny when you were annoyed. “Thanks,” you say sarcastically.
Hankyung, still giggling, flicks your cheek with his finger. “It’s cute, is all! Really cute.”
That’s just what you need to hear right now, not only do you look funny when you’re annoyed, you look cute as well. “Shut up. This is all your fault. All I was trying to do was give you a kiss.”
Hankyung becomes more serious, but there’s still a slight twinkle in his eyes; you know for an almost certain fact that that little twinkle hardly ever leaves. “I’m very sorry,” he says, sounding serious now, “that your timing is crap.”
You send him a glare and he laughs at you again. “Oh come on, Kibum, admit it, it was funny!”
“My head hurts.”
Hankyung’s arm is now around your shoulder, and you can feel his fingers lightly stroking your arm, it sends an involuntary shiver through you.
“Aw, don’t spoil our beautiful night by going all moody on me, now,” he teasingly warns you. You spare him only a brief glance, but he’s still smiling at you.
People always tell you that you have a beautiful smile, but you can never agree with them, because you know it’s Hankyung who has the beautiful smile, and annoyingly enough, it’s a smile you can never resist, it always makes you smile back, even when you don’t feel like it.
Damn Hankyung.
“See? You know it was funny really!” He says triumphantly, squeezing your shoulder a little with his fingers. “Now, what was that you were saying about a kiss? If you want to try it again, I promise I won’t move this time. At all. I won’t even breathe, just in case it’ll send you off balance again.”
You resist the urge to roll your eyes at him, because sometimes Hankyung can be so stupid, but you absolutely love it anyway so your complaining is pretty damn redundant.
“Hankyung,” you say in your ‘warning’ voice, although it isn’t really because half of you is amused. You’re about to warn him that if he keeps this up there’ll be no kisses at all, when Hankyung makes a noise and wipes at one of his cheeks.
“Ew, Kibum, you don’t have to spit on me,” he says, making a slight face.
“I didn’t.” And you’re sure you hadn’t, because you hadn’t spoken enough to have risked spitting on him.
Hankyung wipes at his forehead this time, frowning at you. “You did it again! Stop it; I didn’t bring an umbrella with me.”
You’re about to tell him rather firmly that you are not spitting on him, when you feel something wet splash against your own face. You frown, because you know it wasn’t Hankyung. And then you realise what it is, just as more of it starts to fall.
“It’s not me, you moron, its rain,” you tell him, unable to help but laugh a little at Hankyung’s silliness. And then you realise what rain actually means. “Oh, shit. We’re going to get soaked!” You only just seem to remember the fact that rain is wet just as it starts to rain harder.
The two of you leap off of the swing and run off looking for some shelter from the rain, you don’t even realise at first that Hankyung’s holding your hand, or you’re holding his, as you make a run for it.
If either of you had watched the weather report earlier that evening, you both would have known that it had been forecast to rain. But neither of you had watched the weather, and it didn’t do you any good now anyway.
It doesn’t take long for the two of you to find shelter under the awning of a store, but of course you’re both still pretty wet. You won’t get into any trouble though, as long as neither of you catch a cold or get sick. You can’t afford to, and if you did, Eeteuk might just kick your asses and put some kind of curfew on you both, since neither of you are supposed to still be out this late anyway.
Although you’re not really thinking about any of this very much right now because you can still feel Hankyung’s wet hand clasped with your own and his now wet hair is sticking to his face a little, and you know yours is too, and he’s just a little bit breathless from your mad dash for cover, and you are too, and he just looks so … so … so appealing, standing there and looking down at you, breathless and wet and wide-eyed and smiling.
You don’t even take a moment, not even a nano-second, to stop and think before you’re reaching up and pressing your mouth against his. It’s soft though, or, well, a little. Soft, yet firm, and hard enough to stop Hankyung from the giggles you’d known were about to come pouring out of his mouth at any moment.
His lips are wet, as are yours, and they slide together in the most interesting way, though it doesn’t really matter much because his lips are a perfect fit to yours, perfect. You pull away after a moment, although not very far, you can still feel Hankyung’s breath hot over your skin. Your lips twitch into a smile, and so do his a moment later. You can feel one of his hands encircle your waist, and you don’t resist - why would you? - as he pulls you closer.
“I’m not sure that was good enough, Kibum,” he says to you, that smile still on his face. You start to frown and open your mouth to protest - you’re a perfectly good kisser and you know so, thank you very much - but Hankyung, smile widening, cuts you off.
“That was far too quick. What kind of first kiss lasts for three seconds?”
It’s your turn to smile now as you realise what he’s getting at, and this time you do roll your eyes, but only a little, because you’re far too crazy about Hankyung to mind his silliness, and besides, it’s one of the things you love about him, really.
“Oh I’m so sorry,” you say in a voice that clearly says you’re not at all sorry. “I’ll have to try again then.”
Hankyung nods, a small laugh slipping from his mouth. “I really think you should. Or else you -”
But Hankyung never gets a chance to finish whatever he was about to say, because you knew it would be something stupid, and you really didn’t care to hear about it, because you’d much rather be standing there, with the sound of the steadily falling rain around you both, pressed up against Hankyung and kissing him.
Which is exactly what you’re doing. And it’s one hell of a second kiss, too.
