Major hiking adventure this past Sunday! \o/ We drove over to Waianae side to hike Mt Kaala, the highest point on O'ahu at 4,025ft. The hike is ~7.5mi round-trip with an elevation gain of ~3500ft (aw yeah). The first half of the hike takes you through a valley and up the side of the mountain range to the ridgeline; the second half climbs that ( Read more... )

You are insane. And awesome.
The views are amazing but there's no way I could do that rock bit. I mean physically I have trouble keeping my balance on flat ground and I'm not fit at all any more so I couldn't do any of it but that rock bit would have me turning back no matter how fit I was. >_<

I used to go bush walking but never really did more than 5 miles at a time. I was dealing with arthritis in my feet, ankles that turned at the slightest thing and knees that sublaxed. I wish I could do it again now though. There are some amazing walks around the village where I live. We don't get beach views but there is hundreds of kilometres of bush with no signs of people.

it was somewhat insane, haha. we've been building toward this hike for a while now and it was great to finally do it. and the rock pile was honestly kind of terrifying. my legs kept shaking!

I would love to go bush walking in Australia some day. being in an empty, open space like that would be incredible. :)

There's this bush walk from Sydney up the coast called the Great North Walk. I've done bits of it. It goes to Newcastle where I used to live. Some bits of it now go through suburbs so you're walking along streets with houses which is not so fun at all but other bits of it are totally wild.

We used to do bits of the last section.

I WANT TO BE YOU WHEN I GROW UP.

You should come here up for vaykay someday. Non-tropical, but we have some hikes you would love. :D

that sounds like a great idea. I miss the Pacific NW, it's so beautiful there. my family lived in western Idaho for a few years when I was younger and we'd go visit various parts of Oregon and Washington. I'm actually thinking of doing a winter trek training on Mt Rainier sometime in the next year or so!

That looks like an awesome trail! Thank you for sharing these photos (it's winter here and hiking - one of my favorite sports - will be impossible in a week or two) I really enjoyed looking at them. And congrats!

it was so very cool. and walking through that bog at the top was a great payoff. ngl, one of the best things about living here is being able to hike (and be on the beach) year-round.

thanks! glad you enjoyed the pics! :)
