You're the type of people I envy for having cool people to share a birthday with. I was over at imdb.com and I share a birthday with Diane Keaton -- I mean thats kinda cool, but Diane Keaton vs. Joe Strummer? Come on, NO CONTEST!

My mom shares a b-day with David Hasselhoff. I told her this and tried to explain the coolness of it, but she really wasn't that into it.

I am kind of pissed that I just now found out (28 years later) that I share a birthday with someone cool. I have been carrying the misfortune of sharing a birthday with Kenny Rogers for all of my life, ha!

But Kenny Rogers, oh man, he is SO wise...I mean, he teaches the kids life lessons:

Kids! You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away!

LIFE LESSONS SAGE! LIFE LESSONS!

(also, my friends an I were once talking about if we ever had enough money to buy a NHL hockey franchise, we'd totally relocate them to Vegas and call them the Las Vegas Gamblers. Yes, the teams theme would be "The Gambler" and they'd have various hands of poker on their jerseys. and yes, this is what we come up with when we're not at work)

I get weak in the knees everytime I think of how incredible this guy (and the Clash) was.

I was lucky enough to see the Clash once, back in 1982. They opened for The Who at the Kingdome in Seattle. Soooo surreal and, of course, far from the ideal way to see them but gah...even with shitty sound, smoke, obnoxious fuckers, and coke everywhere it was amazing. I had just started listening to them (new things filtered slowly into Spokane back then) and promptly went home after the show and bought as many Clash LPs as I could find.

They (and the Ramones) changed the way I felt about R&R forever.

I was sad about the Ramones dying. But Strummer's death dealt me the biggest blow. He was such a lovely bloke.
