New York!

Friends,

We need a little advice. My daughter starts grad school on Long Island in August. She will be driving there from Florida. Can anyone tell us the best way to get to Long Island from the south and avoiding New York City traffic as much as possible?

Thanks much

Hey there! Sorry I can't offer any advice - I think she'll have to go through New York City at some point, even if it's only Brooklyn and Queens, to get to Long Island. I just wanted to say congratulations to your daughter for getting into college - my daughter Emma is starting at SUNY Purchase (about 20 miles north of NYC) in September.

Oops, I mean grad school. Didn't read the post correctly - must be my ADD. ;p

Hey, congrats to you, too! Megan is going to SUNY Stony Brook. Very cool that we both have college kids in New York. Maybe we can stalk Anderson at a weenie roast in the Hamptons. I'll bring the buns.

Hey, I go there - which department? Actually, I'm just dissertating there and I live in NYC. Or Brooklyn. My taxes say it's NYC, but try telling that to Manhattanites.

Do you mind if I ask which school? I'm dissertating with a school out on Long Island. There's only one I can think of.

As for NYC traffic - the best way to do it is to go up the Jersey Tpk., take Exit 13 to the Verazano Bridge and go through Staten Island. It cuts out Manhattan, though the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway up to the Long Island Expressway is kind of a pain in the ass. AVOID RUSH HOUR.

I'd advise you to avoid the LIE too (otherwise known as the world's biggest parking lot), but it's impossible. Just, avoid late afternoon rush hour on the way out.

You're welcome.

BTW, people always ask me who made your icons whenever I use them. Especially pregnant Justin.
