Got back from vacation on Sunday. Went to visit a friend in Florida. Stayed in Tampa, visited Universal Studios in Orlando, and went to the beach at Sarasota. Lots of driving :-) I had a very good time despite almost being attacked by a T-Rex at the Jurassic Park section of Universal
.
There was no luck getting a job this year, though I am not surprised. My school district has been doing a royal shuffle of all the schools and they cut a lot of jobs. Next year, an entire middle school is being dissolved so all those teachers are losing their contracts and going back into the open hire pool. I talked to my parents and told them how I was just tired of teaching and my heart is not in it right now.
We decided its time for me to go back to school.
I found out yesterday that I've been accepted into a Vet Tech program which I am rather excited about since they only take 50 people per trimester. When deciding on my major in the first place, it was between teaching and vet tech. Decided teaching was more for me at the time (which apparently, its not). If I end up going there, I'd start in March. Downside.... its going to cost a LOT to go to that school.
However, my dad, while he will accept whatever I choose to do, doesn't really seem to support the Vet Tech idea. He wants to see me get my masters in teaching in early childhood. Which I could do. Dad is convinced I just need to step away from subbing for a while and focus more on the grade level that I like most. I loved working with the kindergartners last year. But boy does that job get tiresome after a while. I'm not sure I can see myself teaching the ABC's for 20 years. Plus side.... it will be a lot cheaper to do this than vet tech school.
Anyway, I have a big decision to make in the next few weeks because no matter what route I decide to take, I will be moving back to St. Louis to go back to school. Mom and dad have offered me my old bedroom back and you cannot beat free room and board. Andrew is going to be staying in Evansville with his job which is going to be a big adjustment for us. Honestly, I'm quite worried that 2 years away from each other is going to be a relationship killer. There's been talk of making this more permanent between us, but as of yet, my left hand is still bare of anything shiny. :-( (4 years and I'm getting anxious anyway)
However, since I will be taking Tazzy with me, when we first knew I was moving back to St. Louis to go to school, we adopted another dog for Andrew. Meet Arthas (for those of you who are familiar with WOW, yes, we did name him after the Lich King)
He likes to curl up in Taz's pink dog bed. We need to get him a more manly place to sleep soon.
We adopted him from Animal Control about a month ago. He is supposed to be a wire-haired Dachshund/ terrier mix. He wasn't treated very well and while he does know how to be a dog, he's struggling with how to be a pet. He has no idea what to do with a tennis ball, and rarely plays with us. However, Taz can get him real riled up and they'll play almost constantly throughout the day. All he wants to do is be near his people, whether it be laying right next to us on the couch, or simply laying in a bed next to the computer desk. Thankfully, Taz accepted him in HER territory very quickly. :-)
Anyway, apparently, no one needs a sub today, or possibly, I've just been too slow in refreshing the site, so it looks like I'm off work again today. The beginning of the school year is never a good time to find sub jobs... Oh well. I guess its going to be a cleaning day!
