My BFFL is in this very same process right now (although she's a little further along) and it's a really interesting, complex culture & decision. Do you have a rabbi you can talk to about your questions or something? That might be useful. :) Hope everything goes well!

it's gonna be a while though, i only decided like this past Thursday, haven't even really made a concrete yes or no, haven't found a synagogue/rabbi, haven't read up as much as i should, etc. but i appreciate your comment!
