Adventures in the south

So yesterday whatthehay & I went to Savannah, GA. All the way up there the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. When we got about 10 miles out it started pouring rain. So I'm driving this little car, in a rain storm, on unfamiliar streets in an unfamiliar city. Stress!!! Plus I was a little grumpy anyway.

So we find the trolley center we want, to take the tour we want and step out of the car, now remember this is 2 Seattle girls and we thought is that it's just rain. We step out of the car and it's like stepping into a shower with all your clothes on and we are soaked instantly.

So we get our tickets and figure we will be on the trolley and it will be dry, we can see the city and it will stop raining soon. So we get on the trolly and 2 of the windows on it are stuck open and there is raining pouring in. So the trolley is now crowded with a bunch of wet tourists who are not laughing at the drivers bad jokes. Also with the humidity it is hard to see out the windows.

We decide we are going to get off at this one stop and go to Paula Deen's restaurant, it's after lunch time so it shouldn't be bad. We get off the trolley and walk in the still pouring rain and get about a block away from the restaurant and there is a line around the block to get in. Ok that is not going the work.

By this time we are both very hungry and wet and grumpy. We decide to look for food and find a little herbal store with a rack of umbrellas, so we both buy one. We walk back outside and whatthehay puts hers up and it's broken, so she goes back in the store and they replace it and we are once again on our way. I should put in here that I am having to hitch up my jeans every once and awhile because the weight of them being so wet on the bottom is pulling them down and they are a little loose in the first place.

Just down the street is a little hamburger place so we decide that will do. I call lunarhawke and tell him about what has happened and he starts laughing, there is a reason for this but it does not help my mood at the time. A few years ago, lunarhawke & I took a trip to Boston and decided to do the trolley tour, we ended up being in a Nor'easter and we were stuck on the trolley all day because of the rain. Plus the ball game was delayed until the morning. But that trip is a whole different amusing story.

So we had our burgers and decided we would go get back on the trolley and do the rest of the tour and just go back to Florida. The next trolley had the roll down curtains and it was all steamed up from the wet tourists and it was crowded and the roof leaked, so drip, drip.

So at one point the trolley had to turn around and deviate from the tour because part of the road was under water and there was a car stuck out in that big puddle. So we saw the rest of Savannah through very foggy windows and I'm sure from the glimpses it is a very beautiful city and I would love to explore it but definitely not in the rain.

So we get to the end of our tour and there is a bridge that the driver points out the goes to South Carolina. whatthehay and I look at each other, our mind clicking on the same thing at the same time. Lets go over the bridge so we can say we went to South Carolina. So we get to the car, I wring out the water from the bottom of my jeans and we drive across the bridge. On the other side there is absolutely nothing, no stores or houses, nothing. We find a place to pull over, jump out of the car and put our feet on the earth so we have touched South Carolina soil. whatthehay is standing there in the rain her hands in the air laughing by this time.

For this part no offense meant toward people who are from South Carolina. We jump back in the car and call lunarhawke just to say we are in South Carolina. He sounds funny on the phone, I say "am I on speaker phone?" " Yes, I just got out of the shower and I'm wet." " Are you naked?" "Yes." Ok I tell him where we are, he says "Get out of that state now" "why?" "I talk to people on the phone from there everyday and they are nuts, turn back now" "Ok, I'm I going back" I hang up the phone and turn to whatthehay and say the naked man tells us to get out now. Which totally now changes our mood and off we go back across the bridge and through another down pour and about 10 miles out of town into the sunshine. There were many jokes about the naked man on the ride home.

We did stop and buy pecans from a cute little southern girl in a I love New York t-shirt and very short shorts who called us ma'am in a nice drawl.

I took one picture in Savannah and that was all.

So today I am staying Florida and going to St. Augustine and hopefully the day will be much better.
