Studying to get my license, applying to be a physical therapist, preparing to make my first major move, ending my last clinical, AND dealing with identiy theft all at once may be the end of me. I officialy hate the Milwaukee police department, my old apartment company and time warner cable. Seriously, none of this should be near as hard as they ( Read more... )

i can't believe time warner hasn't just sucked it up and taken a loss on this by now. they are clearly at fault here, for not exercising reasonable care in making sure that the person they were setting up services for was in fact amy phipps.
do you have any idea how these people got your information or who the hell could be doing this?
let me know if you want me to research into anything, like the length of time they need to keep copies of leases, or what time warner is required to do in these situations, etc.

Yeah, it all such bullshit. I had to get copies of the bills for the police report. It is so surreal to see bills with my name on it at an address I never lived at and services I never received. These fuckers paid some on this account, because the last bill was $1,946 and now $396 is owed. They had to have some phone number to this account and if people paid on it, can't they go back to see whose name was on the fucking check? Ugh ( ... )

if you find the person that did this you can absolutely sue them. problem is, if you do sue them, the fact that they are stealing identities and defaulting on bills makes me think this person has little money. so even if you win, you could get nothing from them in the end. you could look into a legal clinic, which offers free legal services for people in situations like yours ( ... )

so i did some research and asked around, as far as i can tell the landlord is NOT under a legal duty to keep a copy of the lease. the tenant is under a legal duty to keep the lease while you are currently renting, but that's it. does your dad know the name of this law? whether it's state or federal? i think he made it up. i looked under wisconsin landlord-tenant law and generally in federal law and didn't find anything. sorry - i really wanted to find some good dirt. if i find anything else, i'll let you know.
