That was one reason he wanted Penny's leg removed. He said it was just in her way, anyway. "She stopped using that leg a long time ago!"
He's right. She gets around so well when I'm walking her I forget that she is missing one. She struggles a little bit with some things because of her excess weight (I am a total doggy weight snob and totally hate it when dogs, especially prone to hip or joint problems, are allowed to pack on so much extra.)
She's going to make someone a fine companion! I wish she could come here tonight but might as well wait until two of the setters go back to their home so she doesn't have so many dogs to get used to.
That puppy is lucky that she found you... She has such a sweet face... the thing that I don't get is how you can give her away - I think it's WONDERFUL that you are able to be a foster mom - but, I don't know how you avoid getting attached... It would absolutely break my heart to take care of a pup and then have her leave... I'm VERY impressed that you can do that!!!
Well, to foster is to be *super-human* because you have to overcome the selfishness, a totally natural HUMAN trait, and do what's right for the dogs. Find them an adoring home that is more suitable than mine, and let them go so I can help another dog.
However, this is NOT the dog to ask me this question about! I'm going to die when I place her.
my year old, aussie shepherd terrier mix, Grace just had surgery to correct her luxating patella in her right hind leg, and she currently has some fluid build up around a pin that had worked itself loose because she is crazy hyper puppy. O.o It scared us for a bit.
She's almost to the point where the vet can take out the pins and she can finish healing.
Which is good, because the whole crate business is making her all antsie in her pantsie and she bit the crap out of my ex today...
though, I wasn't too upset about it. :p
Anyway, Penny is a gorgeous girl. :) I hope she finds an equally gorgeous home.
Yep, that's her. We had a husky shepherd mix who looked a lot like Penny, so that doesn't surprise me in the least.
She's gotten to the point where she gets the shepherd "I'm weary of strangers" attitude because lord forbid strangers come in and steal her family. XD
Anyway, the ex gets the bright idea that "oh, I haven't seen Grace in four months! I'll go into the back bedroom and see her!"
And of course, her being cautious of strangers now, combined with not having seen him in a while, combined with her being totally antsy from being in the crate most of the day for I can't remember how long.. Yeah. So she's on the bed, growling and bristling...
And what does he do? He sticks his hand in her face to pet her.
haha good for him. That was a lesson in when not to approach a dog.
Truthfully, though, australian shepherds and border collies are very typically high strung, wary dogs, so her behavior wasn't too unusual. It takes a lot of exercise and socialization to keep a dog like that calm and relaxed, and like you said, she's antsie in her pantsies!

She looks so happy and then she looks so tired from her ordeal. Poor girl.

He totally deserved it.
