Did anyone else find fighting off Santa therapeutic? I think I had a lot of pent up aggression toward him over toys I never got as a kid that I asked for. Now if only the City would be so kind as to send my step-dad along too ( Read more... )

You're still the aggressive one. He held his own pretty well.

That's true.

You meet a lot of people that deserve it then.

It did sound pretty bitter.

A fat drunk comes down my chimney that I didn't have a moment ago and attacks me, I'm going to fight back.

I didn't mean you beating up Santa, I meant the evil Santa in general.

I always thought he was kind of suspect.

It seems strange, though we didn't have the phenomenon of Santa Claus in the Soviet Union. Nor did we have public religion -- New Year's, was our large celebration. Christmas was held underground, away from the prying eyes of police and KGB agents and neighbors.

But nonetheless...I find fighting cathartic only in certain circumstances, and even then I prefer hand-to-hand combat. Martial arts, you might say. I know a form of judo.

KGB, I remember reading about that in history texts.

How did you celebrate New Year's?

It is good to see one who knows their history.

Ah, we celebrated New Year's with a feast, and with a gathering of the family, and even with other families near us. It was, for many, a reason to eat more food than we should or to drink and be merry. I believe one needs such holidays at times...it unburdens the mind, if one does not take it to extremes.

Do you celebrate Christmas -- or New Year's, or any other holiday around this time?

We do, although with so many different species from so many different planets it's hard to celebrate all of them. It's a general time for goodwill and celebrating a new year.

Did you beat up Saint Nick too?

No, I was...uh...out. I meant about never getting what I wanted and wishing the step-dad'd show up so I could show him a thing or two.

Was Santa supposed to be scary like that?

No, he was not supposed to be scary like that.

Oh. What's he supposed to be like then?

He's supposed to be nice and jolly and give you presents if you're good.
