Admiral Pike is sitting at the head of the large conference room table, waiting patiently or as patiently as possible for the Enterprise's officers to meet with him. Giotto was supposed to be here too. Pike was thankful he wouldn't have to babysit too long.
That is what this amounted to. Starfleet sent a flag officer out to a ship to babysit. They were a fine crew, he knew that much, saw them in action and knew what they could do. Command was being paranoid, and he planned to tell Kirk as much when he got him alone.
Right now, though, he had to put up a good front and let them know this was not the best course of action. He could do that.
