I get off the subway today and purchase my latteamericano for maximum caffeine and don't sit down today. I can't stomach sitting without reading material, and I may as well be in the office early making money. You know what that reminds me off? Jamaica. The poor people weren't quite curled up on the doorsteps of the wealthy, but when I was there the Jamaican tour guide pointed to all of the famous hotels and mansions...which were literally less than a block away from shanty towns and outright, heartwrenching poverty. You could walk one direction and a white girl in a clean uniform would offer you a red stripe, the other and a Jamaican would run up to you begging to braid your hair. It made it really hard for me to enjoy knowing that there was such a gross distribution of $.

Oh my god, I couldn't handle NYC at all when I visited there. For that reason and many others. It's just too much for me, the contrast and the overwhelming extremes. Boston I can deal with, though. I've become adept at ignoring our homeless people. :/
