We went to Neil's Cousin's house for dinner. The house caught on fire. Minimal damage. The bottom of my boots are melted. Please, keep a fire extinguisher in your home. Time for bed.

Were you trying to slide down the chimney again?
I am glad the damage was minimal. How did it happen?

The stockings were hung by the chimney with "care". Instead of nailing the stockings to the mantel, they were held in place by the weight of a candle that was burning. We were all downstairs when it happened. The candle burned down and caught the stocking on fire and I think it then caught a mirror above the mantel on fire. Neil's cousin (M)went upstairs and screamed. We all ran upstairs. It was very strange walking into a room that was on fire. M's husband grabbed the non-burning part of the burning mirror and ran to the front yard with it. I stomped out the small flames on their new wooden floor, rug, and deck. Neil doused the smoldering stockings. M's friend grabbed the burning holly and took it outside. The funny thing is that M's husband took the burning mirror and put it in the grass instead of on the driveway so now they have a nice charred patch in their front yard. It could have been a lot worse if the fire spread to the curtains. Thankfully it did not. M's next door neighbor came out and said in a calm southern voice, "M, ( ... )
