El Papa...not la papa

I remember in Spanish class with Ms. Smith at WO learning about how American Spanish students often confused "El Papa" as in the pope with "la papa" as in the potato. Watching all this pope stuff on TV made me remember that. :) It made me smile ( Read more... )

I was watching the Golden Girls episode the other day when Sofia tries to meet the Pope (JP2 at the time, of course!) but I completely missed the irony of Benedict being "in town." haha Probably I was too caught up in laughing about Sofia stealing the Pope's ring in order to blackmail him into visiting her friend in the hospital. (Can you think of anyone ELSE who would do that????

Man, that's a way cuter language mistake story than mine, which involves confusion over the french voler versus violer and an unintentional essay on sheep-rape.
Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan has some great bits about the pope and forgiveness.

Duuuude....

I still have little Pope Iago! He sits in a wicker basket in my bedroom with about 15,000 other small stuffed animals! He misses his old clergy and flock, however!!

What was his full name? I think he was the IV, and I remember something about him being "the brother of Mick Jagger".

The question of the hour is: Where in the HELL is Bishop Whippy? I have Sr. Strawbs of Liverpool right here, and she's asking about all of them. Pope Iago, Sr. Strawbs, Bishop Whippy...were there more?

Full name...Pope Iago IV, brother of Mick Jagger, his paternity suitfulness and the Null Set or something...I think it's in one of my WO yearbooks. I'll have to check because I am just so amused that you and Sarah remembered this. I am truly in good company. :)

I MISS YOU!!!
