October 3rd kicked off the animated Inuyasha: Kanketsu-hen (The Final Act) which will finish up the manga with 26 new episodes.
Hulu fortunately has them subtitled with a new episode each Saturday, so I don't need to wait for fansubs & torrent episodes like I used to with the original. They also have all 7 seasons of the original subtitled for anyone who is interested in watching it. >_>
So far only 3 episodes have come out & they wasted no time jumping right back into the plot, so I feel sorry for anyone who is unfamiliar with the manga or previous 166 episodes, because they would be OHSO lost. Even I had to realign my mind for a minutes to remember exactly where in the plot the new series picks up, which wouldn't have been so bad, but it's right in the middle of the Gouryoumaru arc, which is not one of my favorites.
The only thing I'm a little disappointed in is the animation. Don't get me wrong, there is no deterioration of the quality comparing it to the previous series. In fact, it keeps up with the nice, crisp quality the latter episodes always had (The first couple seasons were hit & miss with animation quality). But since this is the final animation of Inuyasha & will only be 26 eps long, I was hoping they'd step it up a notch. I suppose since this is being aired as a new series on TV & not released as a direct to DVD OVA, that's normal...but I had high hopes.
Several episodes from the original series has gorgeous animation. This was generally done for specific special eps or when they had a guest animation director, which is apparently common in long running animes. One episode in particular, #140 - Eien no Omoi Kenkon no Naginata (Eternal Love, The Nanigata of Kenkon), had the best animation IMHO. I thought it was even better than the animation for the movies.
Also, been reading the chapters put out on Viz's website for Takahashi's new series, Kyoukai no Rinne, & it's not bad. Like most of her long running series, it takes a bit to really get into the long arcs & plot developments since right now we're just learning about our main characters & being introduced to her usual large assortment of supporting cast. I'm following it faithfully, but I'm not entirely sold in it yet.
I need to catch up on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I guess since they're basically reanimating what I've already seen right now I just hadn't had the urge to watch it, but we should be getting to the parts where they start to veer into left field soon.
Also, WTF BLEACH? It's been literally 50 chapters since we even saw the main character. Are you the new generation DBZ or what? Srsly.
