Buick/Suzuki/Chevrolet/Daewoo

Here's a prime example of the inbreeding of car makes these days, but all the ones above are owned or partnered with GM, so it isn't surprising, I guess.

Korean translation: "In China, it's a Buick. In the States, it's a Suzuki. In Europe, it's a Chevrolet. In Korea, it's a Daewoo."

I wonder why it's a Buick in China? Do the Chinese have a thing for Buicks? I can't imagine why.

Unfortunately, this is partly why GM is about to go bankrupt. BMW and Mercedes don't call their cars by four different names depending on the country and they have brand loyalty. Actually, now that I think about it there are those euro looking Dodge vans now that are actually Mercedes.

Anyway, hope you're well. Post something naughty sometime.

Ironically, Buick is actually HUGE in China. I don't remember if it's the best-selling make in China, but if not it's near the top of the list. Buick sells more cars in China than in the US, by a very long shot. Though it makes me wince to say it, Buick is apparently the Toyota of China (though I cannot imagine it's as reliable).

More soon... :)
