Hmm. Been a long while since my last (which was also my first) personal update. I feel it’s about time, don’t you?
I will talk about two weeks ago. Because I feel like that’s what most people will care to read. Because….I SAW MUSE WITH MATTY!!! IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Also, you guys get to see my face for the first time on here....
So, on Tuesday (the 5th) I woke up early, finished my packing, took a ferry for an hour and a half. It was a very boring ferry ride, to tell you the truth. The water was very calm that day, and I had no one to run around on the upper deck with, so I just sat with my laptop and did nothing. Then I learned how to use the Vancouver transit system, taking a bus down to where I was meeting Matty. I did a little walk around, because I had an hour or two to kill, it was cold and wet, and I thought maybe I could get some writing done. So, I searched for a café. Seems I found everything but that. In fifteen minutes I found a police station, an ambulance station, a hospital, a fire hall, an elementary school, a pool, an arena, a sports centre a fitness centre (which I think should be the same thing, but whatever,) the municipal hall, a statue of a man and his horse…in a clear box (who puts a statue in a box?) and lastly, back at the bus stop, I found William Shatner in the newspaper.
So, that turned out to be a pointless walk around. So I sat down and waited at the stop for nearly two hours. Then Matty showed up! We hugged a bit, smiled like mad, talked about the weather then found her uncle who took us to his place. The rest of the day was spent there, where we laughed a lot, I got to meet her extended family, I was Greg (and oh so happy) and I wore bras on my head. Fun times.
The next day we left to Mary’s house. That is Matty’s old neighbour from here. I only remembered her doggy. What a cute dog. Anyway, we went there and left our stuff. We were planning on having an adventure downtown, while we waited for MUSE!!! So we took a bus and the skytrain and we managed to get off at all the right places. Woot! We immediately got our tickets and then had some time to kill. We ate some Japanese food, which was heavenly, then wandered through this extremely Asian mall. It was kind of weird in there. But the ceiling upstairs had stars and things, and I hoped that maybe they would have some magical pull on Matt, though he didn’t seem to magically be there.
We waited in the queue outside the arena for about an hour and a half. It was very cold, and I kept comparing everyone to penguins, because we all seemed to just keep squishing closer and closer together. I found it odd too, how many people I saw from my old highschool. Seriously. It’s weird to be somewhere that far from home, but know so many people. Aaanywho, the line started to move, we got excited. We were right at the front of the line as they started letting people in. We were so excited we forgot to get our wristbands, so we had to turn around and go back to get them. S’all good though, because we still got a spot RIGHT AT THE FRONT! We decided to stand in front of Chris, because Matt would make his way there a lot, we’d still have a great view of Dom, and come on, it’s the Wolstenbeast. So there we were.
Band of Sculls opened. I knew a couple songs from the radio. They should stay there. Good radio band. Terrible live band. The only impressive part of them was their drummer, who also looked quite out of place. He should probably join a good metal band or something. Upgrade a bit.
Then….MUSE! Let me make this clear, because I was very doubtful of this until I saw it with my own eyes, Matthew Bellamy is a VERY TINY MAN! He is very, very small. And his nose doesn’t look so silly either. And Chris. Guh, Chris. He looked amazing. And poor Dom. I spent the whole concert wondering what was up with him. He looked absolutely terrible. So angry looking, and so fragile and skinny. But I have since learned that he was very, very sick. I applaud the man for playing. He did a fabulous job. And I’m very glad to see that he is healthy and happy again.
Crap pic, but I was too exited and into the concert to worry about pics.
They opened with Unsustainable, which was awesome! I already love the song, but hearing it live was just so much fun. I think I was also the only person anywhere near me who was singing the Uns-es XD I was also very loud… Oh well. Then they went into Supremacy, which was just fucking fantastic! I don’t think you can understand how amazing that song is until you've seen it live. Holy fuck.
I’m not going to go into the details of every song, because I don’t think I can, but wow. Just. Wow. Matt’s glasses in Madness, super cool. He pulled the camera right up to him, so the pyramid was showing the lyrics to the song, through his glasses. And he was so wild and hyper, and soloing everywhere. And he came down to highfive people and stuff, and I was like…an inch away from touching him. But the girl in front of me wouldn't let go of his arm, so security detached him, he waved and went to the other side of the arena. Wanker girl. (I knew her too.) And at some point in the concert, everyone was focused on Matt, but I was looking at Chris, and for two seconds of bliss, we were looking into each other’s eyes and headbanging. I think he stole my soul in that moment. Isolated System played for their encore, with a video of people running from something on the pyramid. The whole arena was silent, just watching. And then Uprising came, and Dom’s amazing ninja video came on, and I couldn't stop laughing. I had no idea that that was going to happen. And then the pyramid came up, and he was in his red jumper. And the grin on my face. Priceless. And then they left, then they came back again, for the second set of encores. Matt came right up in front of us and was looking for Lexi, whoever that was, couldn't find her, but dedicated Startlight to her. Then they played Survival, Matt tipped over his shiny amp thing that spins (which he had earlier been using to direct light into the audience. Funny man) and he kicked it around the stage, stood on top of it playing, then he sat down on it and played, then he ditched it altogether. They dropped their instruments, letting them hum into silence, came out and waved, Dom said thanks (but his voice sounded SO WEIRD, with being sick and all) and CHRIS GAVE ME A SIDEWAYS THUMBS UP!!!!!!
Matty and I were on such a high after that. We bought awesome, matching Muse shirts. (I may or may not be wearing mine right now *wink wink*) We then had to catch the skytrain again, so we could meet up with Mary and get a ride back to her place. Guess what we did. We took the wrong one. Oopsies. I noticed though, so we got off, turned around to a station that we could switch to the right train, and caught the right one. We were fiiiiine.
Next day, we decide to go to Granville island. But first, coffee. So we went downtown and found a café were we had samosas and coffee. Weird mix, but whatever. Then we use our tourist skills to find a bus to take us to Granville. However, we were stopped on the sidewalk by a Unisef volunteer. Oh dear lord, you know where this is going. We were too kind to tell him to piss off, so we listened to what he had to say, we weren't interested. End of story. Wrong. He just kept appealing to us. And the more we said no, the more he made us feel bad about it. And then this ginger guy with a beard (really named Ben, but who cares about that) joined in, and he was less obvious with his guilting techniques. We were fucked. Anyway, we ended up standing on the sidewalk in the middle of downtown, with two Unisef guys, for over an hour. What a waste of time. Hahaha. We did eventually get to Granville, had some poutine (yuuum :3) and Matty did some shopping while I tagged along. (Took the bus too far on the way home too. Oooopsies. S’ok though, just had to take the same bus back in the other direction again. Like with the train. Only this time we could sing Kaizers Orchestra songs to our hearts contents, because we were outside.)
Me and McGoozie ♥
Day four was spent with me kind of hungover. Because I was a bad dude and decided to drink a bunch of Vodka. Poor Matty was my saviour. (Still sorry for puking everywhere. Love you ♥) We took the bus, the train and another bus out to some cool restaurant. It was all retro, and awesome. We got milkshakes, and I had an omelette for brunch while Matty had a veggie burger. We took pictures with Elvis outside :) also the waiter, who decided to photo bomb me, but willingly joined in when we seriously asked him to. Haha, he was cool. Next we went to Pulp Fiction. Coolest name for a bookstore. I continued to empty my wallet for Matty, as an apology for the night before, and also bought myself some more Neil Gaiman. Then we went to Science World. Matty was concerned it would be too childish. I shushed her. I wanted to go. And she was right, for parts of it, but other parts were cool. We spent ages in the sex exhibit. Obviously. And we actually learned a lot there. And we watched some weird videos (such as a couple of Dutch people having sex in an MRI) and I played a game where I raced my sperm to the egg, but even though I didn't hit any of the bad things, and collected all the good things, I lost! My sperm turned into a grandpa sperm, and died of old age. *sad face* And we learned that together, we weigh as much as a Western Gorilla, and separately we weigh the same as a Wild Boar. Cool stuff.
Sadly, that was my last day in Vancouver. I had to come back home and return to my life as a *Sandwich Artist \o/
But, you know. Life is looking up. I’m not depressed anymore, which is a relief. Two years of hell are over. I have money. I have started writing again. I am waiting to hear back from peeps in Vancouver who can get me started on treatments and schtuff, because nothing has happened yet on that front. *sighs* Faaaaeeen. Oh, and Belgium (one of my chickens) was attacked by my mom’s wanking neighbour’s cat. Not literally wanking…. But yeah, she’s hurt, and I haven’t seen her yet, because I don’t live there anymore, and I’m quite upset about that. But I’m being reassured that she is hanging in, and being a strong girl. And my 15 ½ year old Rottweiler is still alive and smiley as ever. I mean, she can’t walk so good anymore, but she looks happy. That’s good, right?
Why am I updating you on my pets? You don’t care :P Hmmmm…. Trying to think of things to say, since I never do this….. Yeah, I don’t know what else to say. If you lot have any questions, any at all, don’t be shy. I won’t virtually bite you or anything. I mean, I might personally do it, but only if you pay for me to come find you in your respective country.
