Ah yeah, Cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk is when hackers get to look cool and shoot guns at the same time. Usually Cyberpunk fiction invovles deadbeat/poor individuals who stick it to The Man in a future society run by big business. No body wins in these stories and often times the main character of the story is no better off than what s/he began with ( Read more... )

Actually I think The Matrix is more of Cyberpunk film than Post-Cyberpunk. Since Neo and his compadres are fighting The Man, then its more Cyberpunk than Post-Cyberpunk. For example compare Ghost in the Shell to the Martix. The Major and her team are trying to protect their society which the majority of people live rather good lives. Neo on the other hand lives in a ghetto fighting The Man, which is very much like Cyberpunk.

Here is a thought. Compare Serial Expirement Lain (which is Cyberpunk) to the Matrix. Neo has more in common with her than The Major.
