[The Vampire Diaries] Klaus/Caroline: Don't let the sun catch you crying.

Jan 19, 2014 13:01

TITLE: Don't let the sun catch you crying.
FANDOM: The Vampire Diaries
PAIRING: Klaus/Caroline
RATING: PG
SUMMARY: This is what happens after the two leave the football field, what could have happened, what should have happened.
NOTES: Submitted for a challenge over at writerverse, using the prompts: "coffee or tea?" and "alternate realities".

This is how it could've gone down:

Klaus walks her all the way to her porch, waits before she climbs the steps, then lightly tugs her back down. He pauses for one tiny second, before wishing her a good night.

May this be the beginning of all your hopes and dreams coming true, Caroline.

There's another kiss, another drop from that test tube of unfulfilled desire dripping out and falling fast. There's another a tense moment, while her cheeks are quivering from the faint pressure and her gaze is so painfully focused on his. And she decides it probably won't hurt anyone if she turns the rest of the way.

So she catches him by the shoulder, presses forward, rocks them both. She lines her mouth against his, waits for him to push. And he does.

They end up writhing down her front door, gasping for breath, tearing at each other's clothes.

And then - as they hear her mom making her way over to check what that strange sound was - they break away. He runs his fingers down her cheek one last time, gets to her lower lip and traces its outline.

He smiles, sadly, wistfully. And he wants to say something, but her mom's hand is on the door knob. So he lets go and she lets go, and all she can do after is watch him disappear into the night.

This is how it really happens:

Klaus walks her all the way to her porch, waits before she climbs the steps, then lightly tugs her back down. He find himself in her eyes, with that smile still on his face. She recognizes that look as closure.

He whispers, "May this be the beginning of all your hopes and dreams coming true, Caroline." And then he turns to leave, walks away like an ordinary human would at first. Like he's trying to decide if he should turn around again.

But he doesn't. And she doesn't stop him.

So, as he reaches the other side of the street, she blinks, feels her eyes water - but, before she can even think of doing something else, something different, she realizes that he's already gone.
