Random Babylon 5 Ramblings.

Jul 04, 2003 03:25

I have been trawling for B5 fiction and am APPALLED that so much of it has gone from the web. I'm so bloody glad that I've got it all saved, though there are many things that are no longer around that I really wish were. Visions Before Midnight, which used to be V's site, the archive for the Dark B5 list, is gone. Has been gone for about 2 years ( Read more... )

Visions Before Midnight, which used to be V's site, the archive for the Dark B5 list, is gone. Has been gone for about 2 years now. I still miss it. A Manley Haight's stuff has disappeared. I can only find about 4 stories. Allaire Mikhail's best stuff is no longer on the web. Em Brunson has removed all her B5 works. Jo Soper-Cook has taken down her entire page, including the G'Kar/Londo archive! >:0

I would quite happily set up a page and host all this stuff if there was a way to get it all again with permission. :( There's so much stuff I'd love to rec but I can't because it's not out there any more! Whaddya think... room for another B5 fic site out there? For all the stuff people can't keep going on their private pages, at least?

I think that one strongly contributing reason that B5 fandom largely died after the series ended was that it really ended. SiL was a very good, satisfying conclusion to it all.

Compare with, for example, Blakes's 7, which ended with something that was far more like a solid kick in the teeth. That fandom is going just as strongly today as it was when I go into it twelve years ago, and some fans active today got into it when it first aired back in the seventies.

It really was, but it did leave a good 20 years for fic writers to play with. A lot of the published B5 fiction has been largely crap, IMO, especially by Peter David, who generally writes TV tie ins extremely well.

Yeah, B7 certainly has one of the more active and the more friendly fandoms. From my corner of the world, I'd be inclined to say that that fandom is stronger now than it was when I first got into the show in the 80's.

Ah yes, but you will notice that The Way series and The Navigation series are not there. Nor is the majority of her stuff. It is GONE. The way of the dodo. Trust me, I know. I have been to this site in my quest. Most of her stuff, along with so many others, is no longer available.
