My Austin Trip

Mar 26, 2007 18:15

So, I'm back from Austin. I was there from Wednesday-Saturday last week. I had such a good time! Unfortunately I now have a cold, but it gives me some time to recap and post photos.

Warning, long post ahead! )

Wow, I'm sorry I missed such a lovely recap of your visit until now!

I'm glad you had a good time, and we had just as much fun having you!

Regarding Austin's nickname for itself, it's "live music capital of the world," because they claim the highest number of live music venues per capita, or something like that. And they get a little testy if others don't go along with it. A while back, a New York publication (I can't remember if it was the Times or what right now) referred to us as the "live music capital of the South" in an article, and folks got all worked up. Hee!

I'm glad you liked the recap! I try to always do a long recap like that when I go on a trip, because even though the pictures are the most important documentation, a written synopsis is nice to read again later too. Sometimes I'll read an older entry about a trip and think "Wow, I forgot that happened!"

I was about to say "I hope I can come back again sometime" but I should change that to "I'm looking forward to WHEN I come visit again"! There are just too many trips per year that I want to take. (As we've discussed at length many times!)

Yeah, live music capital ... that's what I was trying to remember. And Nashville has some music title too, doesn't it? Music City or something?

Wow, remember when $7.50 was expensive for a box of cake mix?

Also we had not decorated or painted or furnished at all! Our trees were so tiny! We had Winnie! Clothes were so big! What a fun time capsule.

I know, right? Now it would probably be $17.99 for a fancy cupcake mix. I went grocery shopping last night and a normal size bag of chips from the name brands like Lays or Ruffles was $6.99. A bottle of Heinz ketchup was $7.99. I know it’s been this way a while but it seems to be just getting worse. And I sound like a crotchety old lady (which I am).

Hi 34-year-old me who wrote this journal in 2007 - someday you’ll be re-reading this at 50, as an old lady griping about food prices!
