N00b...

newbie... I'm a n00b... I've been there since I was four, longer than half of the others, and yet still, when I visit for Baycon, I bet any of you, that I will be considered a n00b...

Damn. That's just kinda funny...

Some people get really upset. "Why won't you consider me a peer/grownup/etc?" and all.

Your attitude is more refreshing.

Dude, last time I visited, Nic yelled "You've got tits!" I shall forever be able to deal with being a n00b after that. And you've got to admit, the irony in the whole thing rocks.
Anyway, I know I'm mature and grown up, why would they ever have to notice? It's not like its necessary to my survivle if they suddenly come upon the epiphany that I really have gotten older.

Well, the last laugh is yours! You can smile sweetly and say (quite honestly) "I can't remember when my first con was, I was too young, I grew up in fandom" ;-)

Why do you think you will be considered a n00b?

That's not a rhetorical question; I'm actually curious.

Ok, ready for the long version? Brace yourself.

I have some friends out in CA that I've known since the far side of forever. Now, despite this long time of knowing one another, even while I lived on the west coast, I only saw them a few times a year. After moving out to MD, the stretches got even longer, at the moment, the next time I see them, two years will have passed.
Now, the friends that they see every day, will probebly not know me, and therefore assume, that I am new. This, despite the fact that I have known people longer than they have (possibly) known of their existence, will still make me a n00b.

It's amusing, and I would laugh, if I weren't too busy doing other things.

Actually, a LOT of the people you'll see around Baycon WILL know you already. And the few who don't are probably newer than you and will likely be told so when introduced to you. (i.e. - "This is Jordi, she's been around FOREVER, just not lately.")

Nobody thinks you're a noob. You're just not around much.

Besides, you're doing better on the getting-out-to-see-us than your sister. ;P

Hah! Yay! Not ao much of a noob. Points to me.

And that's kinda scary, going on two years now, and I'm still doing better than Cacie.
