chris cornell concert

EDIT: pictures are BIG! i don't know how to resize them, or why they came out big this time..consider yourself warned!

ok, i guess i'll just start from the beginning. i am not one to really review concerts; i just really like to post highlights and my feelings about shows i get uber psyched about. anywho, first things first. the show was about an hour and a half away in columbus. greg and i left at about 4:30 and arrived promptly at 6, an hour before the doors opened. imagine our surprise to discover that there were only 40 or so people in line ahead of us. crazy! anyway, the doors opened a little bit before 7, and in we went.

the venue was the lifestyles community pavillion, which i had never been to. i only went to the newport music hall, which is smaller and more like bogarts, to my recollection. anyway, this place is NICE. it's pretty new i think; a definite upgrade from bogarts.

i looked at the stage and i think i literally gasped: there were people all along the rail, but that was it! so we secured our spot, centerstage, second row. we talked a lot to the people in front of us (who were super cool) and found out they had gotten in line at noon. NOON! we got there 6 hrs later and still managed to snag the second best spots in the house. nuts. i mean, i understand the thrill of being against the rail, but still.

the opening act was a band from NY called earl greyhound. they were ok...i think i would have enjoyed them a lot more if their mix was better. they were very drum/bass heavy, and as a result you could barely hear their vocals, which seemed pretty good. per usual, it seemed like the opening act went on FOREVERRRR...

then promptly at 9 (well, pretty darn close to 9) the lights dimmed and we geared up for the show. we were kinda surprised that no one was trying to get ahead of us or anything like that, i guess we were so close people decided not to try! chris's band came out first and played sort of a 'sunshower' introduction like thingy...i dunno, it was cool though. yogi, peter (his guitarists) and corey were working the stage and getting in all of our faces. then the man came out!

seriously, i think this concert may have trumped the last chris show i saw in cincinnati. the band is MUCH more tighter, and chris had that much more energy. it was absolutely amazing. chris is such a phenominal performer; he made eye contact with so many people and really made an effort to work the stage.

the night is kind of a blur of amazingness, so i guess i will just highlight the amazing stuff of the night rather than rundown each song, since i can't really do that as everything is blending together.
~his band cracks me up. for real. the entire night they were throwing picks at each other and the audience. they were goofing off so much, you got the impression it was a bunch of best friends playing on stage at a local bar (although much better musicians, duh). greg and i got one of the drummer's guitar picks (yes, the drummer had his name on some CC picks, explain that one to me), and at one point sutter (drummer) threw candy at everyone. i got 2 twix's out of that. YAY!

~yogi came on WAY late after chris's acoustic song. he was shirtless and the guitar tech played a little bit til he got situated. it was quite funny. i felt bad, cuz shortly after that some ASSHOLE splashed beer on stage and it looked like a lot of it got on his guitar pedals. everything worked, but the tech had to come out and wipe it down. sucked!

~the guy standing in front of me took off his soundgarden shirt at one point- chris took it and wore it for about 4 songs, giving it back shortly thereafter. LUCKY GUY! someone also threw a mother love bone shirt onstage, which chris wore at the end of the set.

~i got to witness chris shirtless. in the flesh. OMG...the man is RIPPED! he is 43 years old and in AMAZING shape (see pictures for evidence). greg is still trying to figure out his method for getting rid of body hair, lol...

~at one point (i believe during 'slaves and bulldozers') chris jumped off the stage right in front of me and proceeded to help peter pull the strings off of his guitar. i was smashed into the rail at that point, but i managed to get a close up picture of the incident. it was bitchin. i even got to slap chris's back after he did that....i am such a weirdo!

~some bitches behind us began flashing the band....chris seemed kinda flustered by it, then said that they were doing it for yogi, which made him look rather awkward.

~chris was chatty and funny the whole night. there was a WHITE CASTLE in the venue, which he found hilarious. he also talked about how peter had only eaten a big mac 2 times in his life, and talked about moonwalking before singing 'billie jean.'

~song highlights: getting to hear 'let me drown' again, along with 'call me a dog' and 'like a stone' acoustic. he also played a bit of 'preaching the end of the world' acoustic, which made me soooo very happy. i wanted him to play more stuff off of euphoria morning, though! he also slipped a little 'in my time of dying' and 'whole lotta love' in there a couple of times, which obviously made greg and myself go nuts. he played 'superunknown' and read the lyrics, which was funny....we also got to hear 'pretty noose' and 'burden in my hand.' there is certainly more i am forgetting, but that is what sticks out in my mind.

~i ALMOST caught sutter's towel (i actually had grabbed a part of it) but some bitch next to me BIT ME!!! fuck thaaaat! it's not like it was chris's towel or anything....idiot!

i guess that's it...i'm still so exhausted right now, so i'm certain i am forgetting about SOMETHING, so i will update later. but it was absolutely amazing. chris freakin hit ALL of the notes, so in greg's eyes, he was perfect again (the last couple times he saw audioslave chris did not sing well because he was sick). he played for damn near 3 hours. i just cannot believe how much the band has GELLED...it was just so fascinating i am almost at a loss for words. i was a little nervous that the crowd was going to be full of douchebags, but i think i was close enough to the front that i got away from anyone who could have potentially ruined my experience. :) i half wish we would have waited around longer after the show to at least chat the band up, but it was midnight and we hadn't eaten anything all day.

and now, onto the pictures! i ended up taking closer to 65 pix...more than i thought, but certainly not more than the time i saw him in cincinnati. i uploaded the best of the best to my facebook, which can be publicly viewed at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2149416&l=b54fb&id=20901060

however, here is the best of the best of the best!! :)

i really wish i captured this one better, but it's still pretty awesome.

this picture is near perfect. i love it.

i think i am going to get this one enlarged and framed...mmmm

yummy....ha....more of these blessings at my facebook :)

chris's head when he was 2 feet in front of me, ripping peter's guitar...i wish i got a better shot of this

this picture is too freakin cute, i wish it came out better though!

ok, i think my computer is going to freak out if i upload anything else. seriously, there are so many more gems at my facebook profile, including more of yogi shirtless (and i know there are a couple of people who will appreciate that!! :). i will probably upload them to myspace later today as well.

and i'm spent. i'm going to go read and relax, as my neck hurts from rocking out so hard last night!
