DJ Starlight Strikes Back!

You know, I made this a long time ago and never bothered to post it. I wanted to make it longer, but I think it's perfect the way it is. There's not much else I can do to make it any better ( Read more... )

Curious: What technique/equipment did you use to mix? Put together in a program, mixed live off decks, what? Didja use any FX boxes (cause I heard some sounds like you were, phasing and stuff--could've just been the original song.)?
Maybe a song list? :3

At any rate, the KKK Mix is quite good. Excellent mixing technique, good song progression. I felt like the energy flow was kind of interrupted a couple of times, but other than that, it progressed well.

One side-note, if you're gonna share mixes on mp3 I'd suggest using a de-esser or some other compressor to tighten up the sound a little... this is a problem I face regularly when recording from turntable to computer. The "Horse With No Name" cover is a good example of this.

It was done with Sound Forge 7.0. I've never used a turntable or anything before. In fact, this was only my second mix ever. The first one wasn't that great, but I learned a bit more and then made this one.

When you say "de-esser" though, you'll have to explain what that is and how it works. I'm really a completely newb here, so I know very little. I just seem to have a knack for beatmatching and stuff. Otherwise, I would not have been able to make this at all.

Thank you so much for the compliments, though. I honestly wasn't sure what everyone would think, especially someone who does this on a regular basis. :3

Lesse... Sound Forge, that's a Sonic Foundry product, right? I've never used it though I have used their product Acid. Anyhow, there should be some way to apply effects to each track. One of the effects should be called something like "Compressor" or "Track Compressor" or "Limiter" or something. Just apply that with either the default settings, or with a preset that sounds good; you can also fool around with the settings until you find something you like.

If there isn't a compressor plugin, you can probably download a VST plugin somewhere, or a quick fix would be to turn down the treble on the EQ, I'd say between 8 and 14 kHz. Again, fool around.

Anyhow, really awesome for a second effort! Keep making more, I'll be happy to listen + critique.

I'm no expert on such things (especially as most of my expertise in listening to electronic music lies in industrial), but it sounds pretty good to me... and bonus points for the Terminator 2 music at the end. :D
