Email to me is just like a phone conversation, mostly. In fact, I sometimes, perhaps unfortunately write emails as if I were speaking on the phone. I expect a response within a few days (work I would say one day at the latest). I hate when people don't answer all the questions I ask or seem to forget what I've written in a previous email as well. It seems inconsiderate. You'd answer if you were talking to me on the phone, right? I really don't think you're being too demanding. I will say that if I don't respond fairly soon to an email I forget about it and it could be awhile til a response is emailed, but at work that seems to be out of the question unless it doesn't pertain to buisness. I think I'd probably be as mad as you are even though I don't know your exact situation, but I get pretty peeved when I don't get emails back in a timely manner and when people make me wast more time saying the same thing twice. Perhaps, I'm just selfish tp have these expectations, but I mean it's not that hard, is it?

Hi Liz, it's Emil from bitolithic here. I think that as a professional (and someone who I think is fairly well educated in the English language) you expect your recipients to have a certain level of reading comprehension and make an effort to understand your email.

Chances are that one, if not both of those are just not true when your emails are read.

I often experience the same frustration as you, you tell someone X,Y and Z and they ask you about Y and Z. Now I make an effort to ensure emails contain only ONE bit of information. Even when I know I'm prolonging the email exchange as a result.

Thanks for all of the input. Sometimes I feel like I get annoyed too easily (and I probably do), but it's good to hear that at least a few other people have similar standards ( ... )
