Summary: Buffy realizes how she feels for Faith when it's too late.
There was no love lost between the two Slayers and the tension between the two of them was obvious. Yet as Buffy glared at the brunette, she felt a sense of loss underneath her anger. Faith was her other half, more so than Angel ever could or would be. When she was close to Faith, when they were both slaying side by side, Buffy felt a sense of wholeness and exhilaration that made her feel more alive than anything else in her life did.
Now that Faith had betrayed her, that sense of wholeness that she still experienced when she was with Faith seemed horribly wrong and perverted. They were still mirror images of one another, dark and light, good and bad. Yet it still didn’t make Buffy feel any better about her connection to the dark Slayer.
“You still don’t get it B, do ya?” Faith asked with a smirk.
“I’ll never get it Faith.”
“We’re super heroes, we don’t need to listen to a bunch of stuffy old men who want to control us.”
“You think that the Mayor isn’t controlling you, that he’s not pulling your strings?”
“That’s different,” Faith snarled as she crossed her arms.
“Whatever,” Buffy flatly stated.
“At least he sees me for who I am and not because of some destiny that was forced on to me.”
Buffy had no response to Faith’s statement, the brunette would never understand that Giles saw her more than just a prophecy or a destiny. And that he had seen Faith as a person just as he had seen his own Slayer. She knew that she had reached a stalemate with Faith since she wasn’t ready to physically stop Faith quite yet. And she wasn’t willing to turn her back on the other Slayer.
“Get outta here, Faith,” Buffy commanded.
Faith smirked once more, causing Buffy to feel a tightening of desire in her stomach. She couldn’t have the brunette in her life anymore, but she still needed her in it. Faith moved in quickly and kissed Buffy on the lips. The sensation of Faith’s lips against her own made Buffy’s heart pound faster as she fought against the immediate arousal caused by Faith touching her. Faith laughed as she pulled back and turned away from the blonde, they both knew that what Buffy felt for Faith would never fade.
Nothing had changed between them, except the kiss that had forced Buffy to face her true feelings for Faith. And that forced realization had come to late for the both of them.
