IN OUR FACE IS WHERE IT BELONGS

Last night I watched the "hotly contested" documentary "Baghdad ER" on HBO. I now know why people protested against us seeing it. It was one of the hardest things I've ever watched. To see those brave men and women who are there serving our country suffering and dying is gut-wrenching! I cried the entire hour it was on. But who would think it ( Read more... )

I didn't see the show, because we don't have cable, but I agree completely with what you said!

It was a hard thing to watch, but I feel it's my duty at the very least to know exactly what they're dealing with over there. How can I feel adequately grateful if I don't know what it is they're going through? It's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I haven't heard of this program, but thanks for talking about it. I don't get a chance to watch much tv. My brother is in the Air Force and has been in Afghanistan for about a month now. He's not in the battle, just there as a mechanic and what not, but we still worry. His wife and child have been visiting with us for 2 weeks now and I love it. But, yes...I do get a little annoyed when people take the "ignorance is bliss" statement way too far. We need to know what is goin' on over there.

Your family is a perfect example of what I mean. You have a loved one in service, and because of that you are aware all the time of what is happening, and what could happen. You don't have the luxury of shutting the whole thing out. Neither should the rest of us. We owe it to them to be acutely aware of what's going on, of just what they are over there doing for us. I may not be a supporter of this administration, or of the war in general, but I'm a stanch supporter of our troops-wherever they are! They are the heart and soul of this country! Afghanistan is no picnic either, and I'll keep your brother in my thoughts and prayers every day, along with your whole family. :-)

i dont know if i could watch that. it would just make me even more angry at GWB and TB (tony blair) for leading these men and women into a country without UN backing. i am against the war, but not against our servicepeople. i just cannot believe this is still going on, and only getting worse.

the world is sadly becoming numb to the news everyday of bomb attacks in iraq and people killed.
we forget that those people are mothers, sons, daughters, fathers, brothers of other people, who grieve and feel just like US.

:sighs:

i just hope it can resolve.... eventually.

I know what you mean. Anyone who reads my journal knows how I feel about the current administration and it's twisted reasons for this war. But I will always support our troops that go wherever ordered, believing our administration wouldn't put them in harms way un-necessarily. They're doing this because they love our country, that's why they enlisted in the first place. So I make it a priority to always remember that in essence, they are doing it for ME! That way I keep the proper thankful attitude towards them even as I rail against this war that's killing and maiming them.
