Yesterday, I spent the night in Arlington, Massachusetts on the set of the Dresden Dolls' new video, "Sing." Crazy, eh? Let me explain: (To make a short story long, I'll give you readers plenty of frivolous details and I'll highlight the only part of the story that you care about in bold, making the details purely optional.)
My friend Jessie from Swansea knows this girl who performs as a living statuary for some of the Dresden Dolls' shows. If you don't know what a living statuary is...well, it is exactly what the name implies. Living Statuary Girl told Jessie to bring some friends to the filming of the video and thus, I went. It was a very last minute thing. Anyway, I drove to Swansea to meet with Jessie and then we drove to Taunton to meet with her boyfriend Brian and then we drove to ...elsewhere in Taunton, I guess to pick up his friend Drew and then we drove to....I don't really know but I guess a town close to Taunton, eh, no matter, to meet up with Living Statuary Girl (her real name is Tara). Then we drove through Boston and then Cambridge and wound up in Arlington.
It was freezing so we ran to a nearby Starbucks for warmth and coffee. Unfortunately, I had no cash, so I just had the delicious coffee aroma teasing me the entire time and inducing insanity leading me to seriously consider stealing a big package of cookies that the Starbucks stock man had left stacked near the counter. I didn't steal them. I regret that. They were molasses.
Then we decided it was a good time to wait in line for the Regent theater, where the shoot was located. Apparently alot of fans caught wind of the video. Needless to say, we had to wait in line in the bitter cold for an hour and a half. I have a tendency to exaggerate when it comes to time, I am not exaggerating about this. So we finally were let in to the theater and we had to sign release forms to be in the video, which made it seem official and important to me. The form said "Talent's name:__________" where we were to print our name and signature. I like being referred to as talent, especially when I'm not even on stage. A lady separated everyone based on appearance, race, creed and sexual orientation (well only by appearance but I felt a little oppressed) and I was placed in the second to last row of the small theater. A very friendly stranger name Erika sat next to me and she was ga-ga over Brian Viglione(sp?) from the Dresden Dolls. It was looking as if the band wasn't even going to be there until we spotted this attractive lad up front emphatically air drumming while their new song was played for us to hear. He turned around for a second and she saw that it was Brian and she went nuts (her enthusiasm was the highlight for me). Brian later told us that Amanda (the singer) strained her neck earlier in the day and wasn't coming.
Anyway, the director basically played the song for us and then told us to chime in on the "aah"s in the climax of the song. They did two shots of everyone singing and then thanked us and it was over. I doubt if I'll even show up in the video, the lighting barely lit our faces at all. We met up with Brian at the end (and by met I mean that I just stood there while the girls clawed for his attention) and Erika got a hug and a kiss from him, and then she burst into flames from the ecstasy of it all.
It was a little anticlimactic but it was fun, none-the-less. I can write on any future acting resumés that I sang in a music video, that's a plus.
Wow, I think I just bored myself to sleep, sorry everyone...this is why I don't write long entries. Babble babble babble.
