Bad Mothering 101: Busted on Xanga

Today I told Gwen that I've been secretly reading her online journal for almost a year.

I had no idea what would happen when I confessed this.  Would a chasm open under my feet?  Would I be dragged down to Hell with all the other privacy-invading bad mothers?   Would I meet my own mother down there?

When I was a high school teacher (in my last life. I don't like to talk about it), I used to read all my student's Xangas RELIGIOUSLY. Mostly of course I was looking for references to me, but didn't find many. I only intervened once, when a certain Xanga took a turn to the too-close-to-suicidal, but I did so through the guidance counselor so I could keep on reading.

I do think it's good for them to realize these things are PUBLIC, though.
