Adrasteia was actually able to catch herself this time following the first mates shove down the steps leading to the belly of the ship. She turned quickly to face the two men, her stance defensive,
although very aware that she was no match for either them.
“You stupid woman,” growled the large Mycenean as he approached. Before Adrasteia could even make a move she was thrown into the wall without mercy. Back and wood met sharply, and Adrasteia could not help but cry out, her back and shoulders were already bruised and tender, this experience was not another pleasing occurrence. She started to slide down, her eyes fluttering closed, not bothering to try and make stand, but the giant wouldn’t allow her to do that either. Instead, he grasped her by the neck and slammed her to the wall again, “Look at me!!” he shouted into her wincing face.
Obediently Adrasteia snapped into focus and glared angrily at the horrible man, “Yes.” Her voice was full of spiteful hatred, and although she thought to say much more than that, she held her tongue knowing that it wouldn‘t do her any good.
“Who do you think you are?” he sneered, his face still inches away from hers.
Adrasteia waited a moment before speaking, knowing what the outcome would be, “I am Adra…”
There was no opportunity for Adrasteia to finish, as the Mvcenean pushed her against the wall again, her head smacked onto the planking, “You are nothing….!”
Breath was quick between clenched teeth for a moment, but the initial pain passed quickly. Her obsidian colored eyes were cold like stone as she looked sharply into his, “You have made me nothing today, but someday soon, you will be nothing for eternity,” she promised him with every intention to keep it.
“Enough!” hollered the captain, deciding the join the conversation.
“Let me kill her…” the Myceneans face in a snarl.
The captain thought for a moment, obviously weighting his options and considering the idea carefully, “We have been very patient with you lady…” he started calmly.
“Highness,” Adrasteia correctly quickly, “You are not of a stature to address me so informally captain,“ which was answered with a sharp smack in her face.
“We have been very patient with you Higness,” he repeated shaking his hand slightly, “but our patients are not infinite. You,” touching her cheek mocking tenderness, “you are only as valuable as we can deal with your foolishness. Perhaps next time you decided to make an example of one of my crewmembers and my ship, I will let this one have his wish… And more…” He took a step back, and motioned for his first to remove his hold, “But if you behave yourself, as a good queen should, when we reach our destination, correspondence will be sent to your fatherly King. Then we can barter for your release, safely, back to your home. Everybody wins. It’s up to you.”
Adrasteia managed to remain standing until they left, her eyes never leaving the captain. Once gone, she slid down to the floor and closed her eyes, refusing to cry.
