apparently, beavers love fresh peas

I just chased a beaver out of the backyard for the second time today.

Does anyone have a live-catch trap that would hold a beaver?

*scratches head wondering what it's doing in this part of Somerville*
The nearest natural waterway is 8 blocks across busy roads.

I mean, I know it's been wet, but...

If indeed you ever discover a beaver in your backyard, here are some tips from folks in my neck of the woods. This is, by the way, a real issue. Damned things are hell on trees. I would suggest, however, that that explosives option be performed by a qualified professional ...

Hey, good to know!
My parents live next to a creek in Oregon, and a beaver once gave them a lot of trouble, destroying their fruit trees and building dams on the creek. I don't recall how that conflict was resolved. My dad's a hunting/fishing type of person, and he could have easily shot it but for some reason he was reluctant to choose a lethal option in that case.

Qualified professional, eh?

Who doesn't really?

Also, dam it. =)

Also also, I'm sorry for your loss; how's the trapping gone?

I WAS going to reply that the trap hadn't worked yet, but now we've got a large groundhog/woodchuck (not a beaver, I was a bit hysterical about that) in the trap and I'm heading off to the woods with him/her.
