I've been doing the same job for 3 years. It's an odd little job that no one else in Australia does, and no one really knows anything about it. I have known for some time that it is underpaid and should be the next rank higher, but as I like the job, I didn't really kick up a stink about it. Apply for the position *and* others at the same time - if it's clear that you'll be leaving if you don't get the position, they'll be far more interested in giving you the position!

I agree with all of the above. After all if you're doing one job application, you may as well do two or more at the same time.
