I couldn't find a quality video or audio for Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers "Captain Suburbia" for this one but I did find the lyrics and I think they definitely fit.
I think this captures pretty good how I feel sometimes and definitely how a lot of friends would describe me, with a full smile and a wink, just as the lyrics suggest.
Captain Suburbia
Come a birth, come a funeral, come a wedding bell
I don't walk a straight line in a dizzy spell
I'm screening my calls, I'm whitening my teeth
Now I got a smile for every stranger I meet
And I can leap the tallest mortgage in a single bound
Hey Now…
Hey Now…
Look at me…
I'm Captain Suburbia
I'm lightin' all the birthday candles in Utopia
It's a bird, It's a plane, it's Captain Suburbia
The weeds will grow, the grey will show, and my garage will overflow now
Lucky me!
I'm Captain Suburbia!
I'm not too young for anything, anymore
I see all my friends and neighbors at the liquor store
I'm mechanically inclined, I'm blissfully insane
I'm rescuing the sacred from the jaws of the mundane
I'm livin' the dream now… I can sleep through anything
Hey now…
Hey now…
Look at me…
I'm Captain Suburbia
I'm blowin' all the birthday candles in Utopia
I'm a bird, I'm a plane, I'm Captain Suburbia
The weeds will grow, the grey will show, and my garage will overflow now
Lucky me!
I'm Captain Suburbia!
I'm tucking in the kids
We're running out of beer
And, “Honey, we need to talk…”
are the only words I fear…
Look at me…
I'm Captain Suburbia!
In terms of how I would describe myself? I kinda like this one for a few reasons. One, Paul Westerberg is one of my favorite songwriters and, two, I just love the title "Dyslexic Heart". The song itself is specifically about single romantic life (it was, after all, written for the movie Singles) but it's also about not really having a clue even when you have very good intentions. So in that sense I still have a completely dyslexic heart... in my marriage, in my friendships, etc.

Plus this gave me an excuse to post the awesome video, complete with the great Jeremy Piven starring in it!
So there ya go... that's me... the kid with the Dyslexic Heart that somehow found a way to become Captain Suburbia! ;)
