I think in conjuncture with my Jukebox Memoirs project I'm going to start doing a series of short, simple entries on music that pose a fun or interesting set of questions. Answers to said questions can be as short or as detailed as you'd like ( Read more... )

My personal theme song has shifted over the years. Back in high school in the early 90s, it was Queen's "Somebody to Love", because I was that prematurely determined to find everlasting love as a 17 year old. By college, it had shifted to Odds' "Heterosexual Man", because I was such a wannabe player. Now married with kids, I'm not sure what it is these days.

My brother-in-law actually met his wife, in a real sense, because of his theme song. They found each other through one of the online dating sites, possibly match.com, and in the description bit about himself, he put that, "much like James Bond has that brassy bombastic theme music, if I had theme music to the background of my life, it would be NPR." That was enough of a hook for her to get to know him, and they've been together ever since, going on five or six years.

It's funny how they shift from era to era in our lives. I think mine would be very similar to yours. In high school there was this obscure-ish hard rock song called "Toy Soldier" by Riverdogs that was one of my anthems. In college it was all Paul Westerberg's "Dyslexic Heart" and these days it is RCPM's "Captain Suburbia". :P

I like this question a LOT, but I have to come back to it in a day or two when my brain is not exploding.

I definitely will come back to it though.

I'll hold you to it. Too bad you don't have more time in Oregon. SO many great shops for books, music, etc. :)

Okay. I said I was gonna answer this question and I usually keep my promises...so here it is! My answer is kinda long because I've got two songs right now as theme songs ( ... )

I knew the Missy Higgins song pretty well, as I have both her albums. Hadn't heard the Tokyo Police Club song; pretty powerful stuff. Thank you for remembering the entry and sharing. :)

In high school people perceived me as happy so they said my theme song was "Walking on Sunshine." In college people perceived me as happy and sad so they said my theme song was "Bittersweet Symphony." In post-grad people perceive me as mostly sad with bouts of happiness and I have no theme song.

I've never perceived you as sad. I have a song or two that brings you to mind (as I do with many friends) and none of them are sad. :)

Oh, and I have a complete mix CD for you that I'll deliver the next time I see you.
