Character Information

Name: Kukai Souma
Fandom: Shugo Chara!
Background:
* Wikipedia's Summary of Shugo Chara!
* Wikipedia's Summary of Kukai
* The Shugo Chara! Wiki's Summary of Kukai

Are you taking this character from a another RP? Nope.

Personality: Kukai's endless energy, from the get go, can overwhelm even the most upbeat and energetic person. He's always up for a challenge or game, even though he's not sure if he can win. He doesn't seem to care. To him, the thrill of playing is more than enough.

Despite his endless energy, Kukai's an extremely sweet kid and will do anything for his friends or family. For instance, when his friend Shion wanted a four leaf clover before she left for college, Kukai spent hours looking for one and was able to give her one just before Shion boarded the train.

Kukai's always ready to try something new, even if he's pretty horrible at it. Especially when it comes to shopping: he has absolutely no common sense. Thus, he tends to buy the most outlandish and ridiculous presents ever unless someone stops him. His perseverance, his dedication to his friends, and his endless energy have endeared him to many girls - especially at his school - and he is constantly fangirled by many of them.

Although Kukai is aware of his charms, he never outright tries to charm girls. He just does this own thing, regardless of other opinions. He's obsessed with sports - especially soccer- and loves the feel of the outdoors. (This probably explains his endless energy.)

Outside of his family, he's an older brother figure despite being only thirteen years old. He gives his friends advice and grueling physical training when they need it - but even then, he's not serious until he's by himself. It's not that he doesn't know when to be serious. He just prefers having fun to discussing doom and gloom. Inside his family, however? Kukai is the baby... and he completely hates it. Older brother figures, to him, usually mean competition, and he desperately wants to be accepted by them in a way that won't let him be babied. It's a tough line to balance, but he manages somehow.

Appearance Changes (if applicable): None!

Powers/Abilities: Kukai has a Shugo Chara [Guardian Character] named Daichi that only people with magic can see. In Shugo Chara!, Guardian Characters are "the eggs of people's hearts," and the inner dreams inside a child. These eggs - if hatched - help people become stronger and more capable of following their dreams. Unfortunately, since they're people's inner dreams, they can also be corrupted and destroyed at any moment.

Kukai's Shugo Chara is named Daichi. Daichi represents Kukai's inner dream of becoming the best athlete the world has ever seen. With Daichi's help, Kukai has two transformations: Chara Change and Chara Nari/Chara Transform.
  • In Chara Change, Kukai gains a star hairclip and bonus athletic abilities (ie, he can jump ridiculous heights and run incredibly fast).
  • In Chara Transform, Kukai transforms into "Sky Jack" and is even more athletic than in Chara Change. Sky Jack's a decent fighter - since Kukai's so athletic - but his special ability is flight (with the help of a blue skateboard).
Without Daichi, however, Kukai is still super athletic, even for a fourteen year old boy. He's also a natural born leader and able to get girls - especially ones his age - to follow his orders.

Family Situation: His family immigrated from Japan to America for a better life, so Kukai's now a second generation Japanese immigrant with engineer parents and four older brothers (the youngest is in high school, while the oldest just graduated college). They're roughly upper middle class, so they live in a two-story house in a nice part of town. Basically, Kukai's going to have to bridge some cross-cultural gaps he never had to before... and unfortunately for him, some of his classmates think his name's "Cookie."

Job: Kukai is a seventh grade middle school student at the local middle school! Nothing unusual there.

First Person Sample: Hey, hey! So I was wondering... what do you guys do for fun around here? I mean, I get that we're here to go and collect these magic shards and stuff, but we can't spend all our time focused on magic shards. It's not healthy! And besides, I'm supposed to be keeping an eye out for X Eggs and Easter while I'm at it.

I was thinking someone should play soccer - or heck, any sport - with me. If sports isn't cool, then how about video games?

Point is, I just wanna have some fun. If you guys aren't willing to help me out, then uh... I guess I'll have to go ahead and try and have fun with my "brothers." Heaven help me. You'll be missing out, though! Our soccer games are amazing! ... If you don't count the time I got sent to the ER.

Third Person Sample: Something about soccer games always attracted Kukai. As he wandered through the park, he could hear some little kids blabbering about some new defense move or another. They were quoting some team - Arsenal or Chelsia? - too as they proudly dribbled the ball and kicked it towards one another.

He couldn't help cracking a grin as he watched them play for a minute. Before he'd moved to Haven - or well, was forcibly put in this body against his will - he wouldn't have been able to understand these Americans and their crazy English, let alone their mannerisms and culture. What the heck did they mean by "Shirley Temples" and houses that people could actually live in? This was nonsense, pure and simple.

... And yet, somehow, soccer didn't change much between countries. Kukai watched them as the ball came before his feet. Instinctively, he kicked it back towards them. He waved, shouting, "Good luck with your game, kids!"

They blinked, but before he could wait for their reaction, he was already headed back home. No need to keep his older brother waiting for groceries, after all!
