It is about to storm here. Austin must wait until during the week; I have some time off and I will get away then and try to remember what matters. A pilgrimage of sorts. Katrina, my dear, I have done a lot of book-studying and crammed quite a bit of theology into my brain, and if I have culled one thing from all of those studies, it is this: one does not need theology to be a Christian, to love God, to know God. I believe that much can be learned of God from books, but I also believe that more can be learned of God from the wind and leaves, from prayer--this much you know. Don't worry. Christ did not say "Blessed are the theologians." And you are right that these books can be cages, they often are. I see it all the time. The books are like cages and we are like caged animals. We trap ourselves, we deny ourselves our freedom, the freedom of Christ. We become furious and crazy, like caged animals that we never meant to be caged; and we do get out, we fight with one another because we don't know how to love one another, because we live our religions in cages instead of in the Lord's vineyard.
