Having Fun with Insomnia in October

Oct 08, 2008 01:03

Too late at night, under the covers, I can't sleep. Somehow, I don't think the answer is counting sheep. Many strange thoughts tumble around in my head. Pulling out my laptop, lights on, sitting up in bed ( Read more... )

My mom says the same thing, October is a cursed month. But I see it differently. First, October is a month of changing seasons, especially in California. This makes people more susceptible to getting sick or injured, and also is the reason school starts around late September/October, meaning that our generation perceives it as a time for change, and sometimes that is a time for loneliness and fear ( ... )

This was a little misleading... I was simply commenting that I've heard the idea expressed that October is cursed. That philosophy isn't actually really born out in my own life.

Sometimes, it does seem like there are a disproportionate number of bad things that happen in October, but all in all, I usually like the autumn season.

I'm not rhymin.

To add to 2001: You and M and Zane and I went down to Pacific Ave. for Halloween. We walked from campus and I got pelted in the back with an egg from someone driving by.

Also, October is probably my favorite month of the year. Solidly autumn, and pumpkins.

I remember that! That was awful... what jerks. Otherwise, that was a fun evening though, wasn't it?

Jeez, it's terrible how much I forget.

actually that costume party was for a regular movie night, not for halloween. it was superhero night and we watched... shoot. like mystery men or something. it might have at least been in october tho.

I do remember some party where at Lea's where you showed up with short hair for the first time. Was that the 2002 party? I think that would make sense. :-)

You're a poet and I never knowed it! minervajoy October 21 2008, 19:49:23 UTC
Your sentiment was fine, your rhyme sublime, though too subtle for many to catch it this time.

If you want it funny, to make people laugh, you might avoid using the full paragraph.

And also consider, your spaces much bigger, and gaps at the end of the line would be fitter.

Though telling you true (with a wink and a poke), your writing is fine- your friends just missed the joke!

October is grayish
reminds me of straw
and the orangey squash
and the wagon that's drawn

by the horseman who's headless
who leads us astray
past the cat who is winking
and running away

to where harvest's waiting
and hot pumpkin pie
is in the tin baking
for ghosts standing by

who look so familiar
in mother's best sheets
-and dance away laughing
their candy to eat.

Love to thee,
Stephanie
