The first thing Cassie felt is discomfort. Almost like something hot was inside her. She tried to describe it mentally, but nothing really came close. It was almost like she downed boiling soup. The pain wasn’t unbearable, but it was giving her a headache. She knew she’s not hung over… so what was it? Sitting up, she groaned and promptly froze in shock at the sound of her voice.
The voice isn’t hers, but was familiar.
Getting to her feet, she moved uneasily to the bathroom. She felt heavier, carrying weight in different places; her limbs felt awkward. Finding light switch, she looked in the bathroom mirror and stopped violently. Instead of her own face, she saw a bewildered looking Castiel staring back at her.
“No way,” she paused and cleared her throat, “What the… ? This is. No. Oh, no. No, no, no. I’m not Cas. I’m dreaming. Honestly. … oh God, why am I Cas? Where’s my body?”
After falling silent and staring at the angel in the reflection, she hesitantly began poking and prodding at her face. Well, it was Castiel’s face. But it was hers right now, unfortunately. She wasn’t very happy with this at all. She has stubble and all her hair was gone. She looked down at herself and sighed in frustration. Why? Just… why?
“This is not happening,” she growled, “… Fucking Chicago,”
In her anger, the bathroom light sparked violently above her and went out.
“… Oops,”
Castiel woke up feeling a little… unbalanced. He suddenly found himself very small and confined in a body he did not recognise. Frowning, he sat up and looked about, instantly recognizing the room as Cassie’s. Looking down at himself, he suddenly felt awkward at the sudden possession of… female anatomy. This was Cassie’s body, not his.
He wasn’t expecting this. Unsure of what to do, he slowly got up and headed for her bathroom to confirm it.
Peering into the mirror, he looked and saw Cassie Riddle looking back. He’d only been in a female vessel once before, but there was a bit of a difference between Claire Novak and Cassie; especially the fact that Cassie was a grown woman and not a young girl. His frown deepened and he gently pulled at a messy curl of blonde hair. He didn’t like this in the slightest and he knew he needed to find Cassie this instant to correct it.
He closed his eyes, attempting to find her. But after a few moments, he remained stuck in the same place as he was. Now he felt very uncomfortable. He didn’t have his powers; he was basically, human.
And before he knew it, he disappeared from view. Blinking, he waved a hand at the mirror. There was nothing there. Standing silently for a long time, he tried to will himself back into view. But he was too anxious to do it. No matter how hard he tried, it just wouldn’t work. He was actually stuck.
“This isn’t good,” he said aloud and blinked in surprise at the sound of his voice. It was lower than what he was used to hearing from Cassie, almost monotone. He didn’t like it, it didn’t suit her.
Finally, there came a knock at the door. “Cas?”
Cassie let herself in and looked about worriedly, “Are you here?”
He turned and stood in the doorway and was quiet for a few moments. Then he realised she wouldn’t be able to see him and sighed. Cassie turned her head at the sound.
“Hello, Cassie,” he said finally, “This is… awkward,”
“Oh God, is that what I really sound like?!” she asked, her face dropping a little. “That’s not my voice, is it?”
“… I’m afraid my way of speaking doesn’t suit your voice,” he replied apologetically.
It finally dawned on her. He was invisible. It looked like they’d swapped powers as well as bodies. That did explain the discomfort she felt and... the other things. She felt a pang of awkwardness, but tried to dismiss it... for now.
“Cas, you’ve gone invisible,” Cassie told him. “You’ve got my powers,”
“I’m aware. How do I change back?” he asked.
“Just relax,” she told him calmly, “If you’re feeling worried, try to stop. Breathe in and out, calm down. This is something you control, if you want to visible, you will be,”
It was a mantra she’d learned from Mio. She hoped it would work on him. Soon enough, Cassie watched herself fade into view. She had to stop and stare for a moment, this was just… trippy. She looked… really small. She was actually looking down on herself. Yeah. Okay. This was really weird. And then she made a face.
“Must you look so serious, Cas?” she asked, “I look so weird frowning like that,”
“I’m sorry,” he apologised and tried to take on a more neutral expression.
A moment of awkward silence passed between them.
“Alright, alright.. so… what do we do?” she asked. “How do we fix this? No offense, but it’s really uncomfortable in here. It… kinda hurts,”
“You appear to have my angelic abilities. You may find them jarring, but you should not be harmed. My body will be capable of containing them,” Cas answered calmly, “As for what we should do, I don’t know,”
“Great. Brilliant,” Cassie snapped and rubbed at her face, “This is just lovely,”
“This is probably the Rift’s doing. I think we should just wait it out,” Cas suggested.
“And we’ll change back?”
“Hopefully,”
Cassie sighed and threw herself heavily on her bed. “This sucks, Cas,” she whined, “I want to be me again,”
Cas placed a hand on her shoulder, “Things will be alright in the end, Cassie. Be patient,”
There was another sigh of frustration. Thankfully, the light bulbs didn’t blow this time, “Alright, alright.”
Cassie paused at this and suddenly looked sheepish, guess she had to come clean about before she got here. “Um, question?”
Cas tilted his head to the side, “Yes?”
“How do you control this teleporting thing? I accidentally zapped into Sam and Buffy…" She cleared her throat awkwardly, "Uh, yeah. And I broke a few lights. Sorry,”
