yesterday's critique

Apr 13, 2007 11:35

i had a critique in my main photo class yesterday. i think it went well, although immediately following the critique i was not so confident in that assertion. i showed images of three couples that i had photographed recently, all of which were couples that i had not met until i showed up the day i photographed them. i wanted this group to be " ( Read more... )

What camera/film/lens are you using to shoot these? I'd like to know.

I think the first shot is quite a capture. The way I see it, I like your crop how you only see his hands holding her in the swing while, in the background, there's a framed shot of the couple themselves. A nice repetition. Even her blue blouse and the blue shirt (in the frame photograph) on him helps direct the eye! Or, maybe I really take notice of too too many things. Haha.

i use a canon a-1 which is an oder canon (probably 30+ years). the lenses are old too. i go back and forth but i mostly use jsut a standard 50mm and then sometimes i use a wide angle lens too. cant remember the exact models or anything. everything i use, which is limited at that, is second hand--passed down from my dad. :)

thanks for the feedback. im glad you enjoyed the first shot! im still not quite sure how the lighting and colors ended up the way they did, but i didnt want to correct them too much because i kind of liked it the way it was. :)

yeah sure! I'll bring my computer by next time i'm visiting. I only printed a small handful but you might like some of the ones i didnt bother printing so the computer would probably be better than just showing you those few prints. there was one of you guys in the kitchen that my prof. really liked but for whatever reason flickr wont upload it correctly. :(

i liked the first one best, but had some trouble trying to say why. in retrospect, i think it relates to your class critique...to say that your pictures should say more without the necessity of words is true, but so true that it says everything and nothing at the same time. of course they should. now what?

the first picture, the swinging, seems to say a lot...they are young, they are spontaneous, they have fun, they have a nice apartment; whether i'm right or wrong about them, the photo is causing me to make a lot of assumptions about them based just upon what i'm seeing. i think that's very good.

the other three are ok photos, but they seem more like illustrations that would go with an article, more like photojournalism, the pictures that give evidence that the accompanying words are true. so, for the reasons expressed in your class, i vote for number one -- it says the most without recourse to written backup.

[one person's opinion, worth what it cost. lol]
