A quiet night in to end the week. Just me, Kitchen Nightmares on Hulu, sorting through stacks of books to sell/donate, and continuing to re-read Monologues for Calculating the Density of Black Holes. Please don't make me choose between Anders Nilsen, Lilli Carre, and Jason for my favorite comics author ( Read more... )

I love that so many libraries are jumpin' on the comics train! You know you want to go to the librarians conference because... duh... 2000 naughty librarians? OK maybe not naughty but they are listening to Ms. Merchent so there has to be something there - right?

OK maybe not.

Yeah, libraries definitely seem to be more interested in having comics for all ages and across genres available. A lot of school libraries and public libraries are holding comics and/or manga book clubs for teens, too, which is exciting! I also was required to read a graphic novel in two of my grad school classes (and two of my undergrad ones), which I think is helping create more fans and advocates for comics. Yay!

I'm not sure exactly how many of the librarians at the conference will fall into the naughty librarian category, but I suspect that there will be more than one or two. After party at Union Jacks?

Is Union Jack's the strip club where all the "alterna-strippers" hang out at? I don't go to strip clubs very often, and when I do I certainly don't want to watch a bunch of plastic barbie dolls boppin' around. Give ma a woman with some curves and some tats any day.

It is, indeed. I went there on Easter with a friend in '08, and there was a lot of natural beauty on stage --along with some cool tats and piercings. A fair amount of the routines were also somewhat artistic, rather than people just jiggling or humping things. There was a decent mix of male and female patrons there, too, which I liked. Not a bad place to scope out after a concert at Doug Fir.

I think conferences are the home of Really Old Music Acts That Were Popular Once. I say this because my dad went to a conference in Chicago last year and brought me to the concert they had for a special event, and it was Blues Traveler. Which was fun, but also, yeah, they were popular-ish when I was in elementary school and not after.

Ha, my brother was a Blues Traveler fan, and has since gone on to become a closet Avril Lavigne fan.

I wonder if Bryan Adams has already seen his conference concert days or not...
