How far do I have to go before I feel like I've found the right place?

The place is only a certain percentage of feeling like home. Most of it is within yourself.... do you feel comfortable in your own skin? Do you know that no matter where you are, you are home within yourself? That could make all the difference... keep your head up! When you move far away, as you and I both have, things get difficult and feel very mundane. All you do is seem to do the same things day in and day out... work, sleep, eat, work, work and work... then sometimes it feels as if you are getting no where. Just remember this is one part of the process of growing up. It's a process for you... this whole thing is for you, to learn and to grow. I'm here for you should you need it. If anyone understands how you feel, I think it's probably me.... it's hard to move away and even harder when you can't go back and visit. Just hold out and things will get better, I promise you that! With Love!!!

as another person who's moved far away...

it's not about where you live. or what you do for a living. or whether or not you have a boyfriend/girlfriend. or what you do in your spare time. if you're not comfortable from within, none of these things will matter.

I don't know you and I hope this won't bother you. But if you ever find the answer to your question, tell us what it feels like to find where you belong.
Good luck on your journey

I think sooner or later we all realize the perfect place is where we've already been.
We move (or find reasons to believe we need to move) because there's no greater feeling of lonliness than that of routine -- from which itself is also comforting and nostalgic.
Our goal is not to remain perfectly content, but to ween ourselves from the necessity of living the mass-"storybook" idea of happiness. Look around you. There's a little here and a little there and a little more wherever you end up next.

Your friend here does have a great perspective. It really is a story book, with peices of where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. It's true that I left, not because of any specific reason except to move past routines and the feeling of needing to grow. There is a certain contentment with my past and a certain contentment I feel now. I guess it just is little peices isn't it? Like a puzzle?

It's your little red wagon and you've got to pull it!

It takes a very long time before you will feel comfortable enough to say that you love or even like where you live. I miss Tampa Bay a lot too. Mainly the people, but I have so many memories attached to geographical parts of it as well. It will always be home to me, no matter where I'm at.

I've been in Atlanta for a year and a half and I'm still not convinced it's necessarily the place for me. But a year and a half is nothing really. It will be at least another year and a half before I'm comfortable. Then another year and half when I start to like it. Then another before I love it. And this is all assuming I stay here that long.

My suggestion to you - whatever you do, don't lock yourself indoors. I know it seems effortless and safe, but you will feel so much better about where you live when you've discovered it 8 times over. I'm not assuming that you're not doing that, but if you aren't, you should be.
