I love chanting sutras, it has been a very long time though. I studied buddhism with a friend who was a student of Soka Gakkai following the teachings of a 13th century Japanese monk, Most of it was from the Lotus Sutra and I think it was Kanji (Japanese characters that look the same as the chinese Hanzi), used phonetically to match the sanskrit. It was always something that brought me relaxed peace and focus. There was also a phonetic english translation in a little book that made it easier to start out.

I bet there is something similar available for the Heart Sutra, and also to make sure that you have the correct intonations.
