I'm getting six doses in the next two weeks, then a dose every three months. Apparently my body just doesn't absorb it as well as it should. Boo. But on the bright side, maybe this will finally get rid of those damned dark circles under my eyes!
i thought about you this morning when i poured a glass of chocolate soymilk and learned that it conatined 50% of the RDA b12!
your level must have been really, really low to have made you so sick. glad it's a pretty easy fix!
if it's dietary, it wouldn't neccessarily be an issue of absorbtion. did the doctor mention taking oral supplements or increasing certain kinds of foods? it would be better all around if you didn't have to get all those shots... keep me updated on the circles. of course, i was born with them, so.... maybe mine are a permenant fixture.
It's probably not dietary though, because all meat, fish, eggs and dairy contain B12, and I eat a pretty good balance of those things. It's only if you're a super-strict vegan that you may get caught out, since plants don't contain any. But even then, most cereals (and soy milk!) are fortified with B12 anyway.
I eat meat, yeah. But unless she's a super-strict vegan, her diet should contain B12. It's in eggs and dairy, too. Most cereals are fortified with B12, as well. According to the info they gave me, B12 deficiency is very rarely because of diet.
