I wonder if the College Republicans have a Sekrit Network or something, because they did the catch an illegal immigrant and an anti-affirmative action bake sale thing at UW too. (Yes, there are College Republicans at UW. Why they bother I don't know.)
I am glad you guys mocked them into submission and now I want to hold a pay equity bake sale.
seriously, i'm so glad you mentioned the anti-feminist bake sale responses because i've been feeling the same way. "choice feminism" as many call it, is so problematic, for the reasons you articulated and even more. we have to think about how our individual choices influence society (two entities which are most definitely connected).
Of course I remember you! Welcome back to my LJ world. (^_^)
In the absence of time to catch up on a half-decade worth of LJ-reading, I'll give you the highlights: I graduated college, I spent three years in varying states of poor and underemployed (both in Portland, Oregon, and a small town on the Oregon coast), and now I'm back in the midwest, in grad school, working on a Master's degree in American Cultural Studies. (I wanna be a pretentious academic type when I grow up, which hopefully I'll grow up soon.) I had a few relationships that Did Not End Well. And I took up knitting.
Good thanks! Cliff notes to my half of the 5 years include going through more relationship woes, end up being married to sphexi (don't know if you remember him), moving twice with him, and having 2 kids, switched a few jobs, and now on maternity leave while trying to figure out a new job since the company where I'm currently employed is closing their Canadian location laying off everyone on site.
Crazy how much people go through in such a short period of time. Sounds like you had a mouthful yourself! o.O I'm gonna enjoy doing catchup.
Congrats. Seriously, everything, from the candy (Who buys pastries when free candy is nearby? Genius!) to the slogans to the commentary to the publicity to the FREAKING LOLCAT was awesome. Feministastic, For Sure!

Yes, it's sad it took me this long to figure out this is your new journal. And all these years I thought you've fallen off the face of the earth!
Maybe when I'm not so tired I'll catch up to the near half decade worth of entry readings.
