1. Trans as definition: I was able to come out when I was able to wade past the idea that trans implied some form of transition - that is, it was okay to claim a commonly-held title for people who identify outside the binary without having to undergo any major biochemical or body modification changes. In every other way, I already felt as though I was a part of the trans community, and by opening up that definition in my own head (and by extension, in the community, and in common parlance) meant that I could find other people having similar experiences ( ... )

I think we have pretty much covered the fact that "tranny" is not okay. And if not, Calpernia Addams drove the point home pretty well.

As for putting the space in: I put it in for my glossary, but this still strikes me as a thing-that-is-not-unanimously-agreed-upon. It sounds like the blog poster above got the idea from Julia Serano (though I haven't read far enough into Whipping Girl to have found that part), but there seem to still be plenty of people, organizations, etc. that do not put the space in between "trans" and whatever (example: the Chicago Transguy Alliance ( ... )

At most, some have said that they don't mind or that they like the lack of a space, but I haven't yet seen anyone argue against the space ( ... )
