I'm looking into getting books to help my recovery along. The past three weeks have gone by so much smoothly than I thought they would have. I never thought I would have made it this long without purging. :) I still have things I need to work on. Things like I'm afraid to be downstairs for a long period of time because I take many uncalled for ( Read more... )

Have you heard of Gurze books (publisher)? They publish a lot of recovery-oriented ED books. I'm a pretty big fan of When Food Is Love, by Geneen Roth. It's flakey in parts, but mostly really helpful for anyone with any kind of ED. I've also got the Body Image Workbook, but I haven't done much with it yet so I can't say if I like it or not.

Recovery is really, really hard. You should be totally proud of everything you've done. *Hugs* to you.

I saw some books by Geneen Roth online that looked they would be good. Unforunately, Border's only had Why Weight? Not the one I wanted. I was looking into getting Feeding the Hungry Heart. I ended up getting the Overcoming Bulimia workbook and French Toast for Breakfast: Declaring Peace with Emotional Eating. I also bought a journal that will be for recovery only. No numbers or what I ate for the day will be allowed.

Yes, recovery is extremely hard. I can't even begin to imagine what you have gone through with your recovery. You're so strong. :)

Jen,

My therapist suggested I get some recovery oriented books. I think it is a good idea!

You have made great strides and you're so inspiring. I'm happy for you!

Krystal,

Did your therapist suggest any specific books or said in general to get some?

I'm inspiring? Aww thanks. That's such a great compliment!

Love ya!

Jen,

Nope, she said to check out Barnes & Noble or the library.

You are very inspiring! :)

I dont think you should completely give up chocolate either! You should "treat" yourself once a week for rewarding good eating behaviors! If you need chocolate more than once a week, I'd recommend dipping strawberries into low fat or fat free chocolate syrup. Not only are the strawberries and excellent source of many nutrients, you would satisfy your chocolate cravings!

Oh god! I don't even know why I thought about giving chocolate up. It's not me at all. I do like the idea of once or twice a week. Thanks for the great idea about strawberries and chocolate. I never thought about it!
