Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they ( Read more... )

*chuckles at him* The more the universes differ, the more they seem the same, don't they?

The odd thing was, the government kept blaring about how they were dangerous rebels, but we were so jaded by then that we all thought the media was exaggerating--when they were actually understating the problem.

*crooked grin* I've always been interested in history, but I've never heard it from a Decepticon's point of view before.

I didn't start out that way, which is probably even more interesting. Most Decepticons come out of the factory with pre-programmed biases--well, most except Starscream.

Fascinating. You sound almost bitter, Thrust.

Really? *curious* I hadn't meant to for it come out that way.

*He shrugs* The way you phrased some things sounded less than pleasant. Referring to the Empire as mold, for instance, or your joining as being bought.

It was more a metaphor for something slow and creeping, really. Not a pejorative.

And as for being bought, that was another metaphor, extending from the reference to my father doing business with the Decepticon army. My joining was completely voluntary, I assure you.

*ah, the trials of dealing with a loony--pardon me, an eccentric*

*Auspex is quietly somber* It was somewhat different in my universe but... similar enough. Most of us saw the beginning of it, though. It was... very hard to watch.

We come from very different backgrounds. For me, as young and well-placed as I was, it was very exciting.

I... could see how it could be, perhaps. It definitely was not boring, by anyone's standards. But Primus... *she shakes her head* The eldest servants said they'd never felt that sort of... maelstrom of emotions from him before, even when the Quintessons had come.

*she pauses thoughtfully* What was your cultural situation like? Our people were artificially placed into factions by the Quintessons, and unfortunately for most, grew to be so different that war was easily provoked.

We never actually had Quintessons, or if we did their existence has been long-forgotten. With us it was more of a political movement, born out of the slow entropy and stale enviroment on Cybertron at the time. Megatron simply knew when to bring his plans into action.

In short, we were bored and so we started a war.
