Ok, so I'm slowly becoming a hardcore tea addict. I've already made multiple trips to a store in Dallas called Teavana, bought a few tea-related items, and a few tubes of something called Sencha Jade Reserve green tea. It's one of their "cheaper" green teas, at $9 per 2oz ($72/lb), but it's a hell of a lot better than anything I've had from a ( Read more... )

Oh Man! My wife used to be an assistant manager at the Teavana near DC. That place is insane!! Excellent teas from all over. One of my faves was the Monkey-Picked Oolong, and also the Silver Needle. They often had one of those as samples in store. Need to get you and Renee together and talk about teas. :D

Monkey-picked oolong? Interesting name, lol! Did Renee get to bring home all sorts of different kinds of teas when she worked there? :3

I haven't tried most of their flavors yet. They've got such a rediculously huge assortment. XD Mom got something with Oolong and papaya, and my grandma got this Jasmine white tea. I'm not too find of the jasmine, though.

They just got this new kind of green tea in, I forget what it's called, but the price is $22/2oz, so it's kinda out of my range. XD

Yes, those deep employee discounts, you bet! The Monkey-picked is one of the more expensive ones, but it's good for 2 or even 3 infusions before it's discarded. Very subtle and nice. The Silver Needle I think is technically a white tea, the blossoms. Green as you probably know is from the unfermented leaves, and black is fermented/aged leaves. I tend toward either the white or the black varieties, or just an herbal, and they have lot's of those too. I love the way they'll open up the cans of loose tea for you so you can smell them.

Oh god yes, the smelling of everything! <3 I spent way too much time doing that last time i was there. XD

I do the same thing with the green tea I get, infusing it up to three times. It gets bland after that though. My grandma insists that I can keep used tea leaves in the fridge for days, but I worry about mold doing that.
